How many days in hospital?
Don't know if this a European thing but my doctor has told me that I would be hospital for 10 days. This does sound good to me because I don't have a lot of support here with only my daughter who works all day.
Did anyone stay this long barring complications? It does seem a little excessive but I don't really want to push myself.

I know here in the US, the average stay for GBS is 2.5 days.

In the US average stays in the hospital for lap is 3 days and for open is 5 days barring complications. They want you out asap because recovery at home is so much more healing..and there are less germs (hospitals have tons of germs floating around).

I was in for 4 days with a LAP. I actually take care of my Mom who has dementia and lives with me. It was a bit tough for a few days at the beginning. But really it helped me work out the soreness sooner because I was forced to do things for myself, and her.

Margaret,
In Germany, they aren't going to let you come home until the drain tube has been removed and the incisions begin to heal. They don't believe in letting you go home if you still need much in the way of pain medicine either. Do you know the language very well? Because while your surgeon probably speaks english, little to none of the nursing staff at the hospital will and it could be a very confusing 10 days. On the positive side, some of the best Bariatric surgeons in the world are German. Good Luck.
