Thanks for the replies and I do believe that the German culture is quite different in the way they treat the patients and not only for WLS. My gf had her appendix removed and she was hospitalized for 9 days.

Air Force Wife - I think you are right in that the nurses won't be speaking English very well so I have been practising my German, especially the sentences that I think I will need to know like "I'm in pain, give me medication!" LOL

I had an ultrasound done there once and the dr. said "Do not stop breathing" and then proceeded to get very angry when I kept breathing. My experience when I lived there is a lot of Germans think they speak fluent english when they really don't.
