Starla, Congrats!!!! You should be very proud of yourself! I totally understand what you are saying. I guess I just worry if it does not go right, or if I have a lot of problems later. But, I have to think this is what is right for me! I am in more danger if I do not do something! Thanks for the support!

At least I know I am somewhat normal.. This whole process is just scarey. I know I am doing it for all the right reasons, I know I have to do this if I want to continue to be around and not confined to my home. I am so tired of the fad diets and things, this is my last resort and no one can do this for me except myslef.
Thank you all for your support, I am glad to know I am not the only one who feels this way.
Iwill get through this, I have to get through this, that is all there is too it.
But up until I awake from my surgery I am still going to have these fears.

I had an aunt that lived to over 80.. and she had to be pushing 400.. not to hijack.. but.. you are right there are not that many..
As for being scared.. get it out of your system now.. Do not go under scared.. go under KNOWING you are going to be just fine! And think how much more fun your children will be.. and how much healthier they will be..just because their mom is healthy...
Good luck..

I was the SAME way, my doctor had done over 400 surgeries and said he only lost one, but the one he lost had heart problems, and from what i have heard most of the people that do have the complications have either some sort of heart problem before hand or have a lot of problems or are over the suggested age range. I was still a nervous wreck though, but he told me that not doing it was more riskier to my health. Good luck and hopefully you can calm down.

A little bit of fear and worry is normal but try and focus on all the wonderful positives that will come from this surgery. Sit down and list them if you have to so you can read and reread them to remind yourself how wonderful life will be after.

I have been working on that, it is going to get better, slowly. I feel a little bit of ease knowing someone who just went through it and is doing o.k..(Thanks Amanda). We talked almost 2 hours on the phone last night and she gave me alot of information, so I am a little bit more at ease.
I will be fine probably until that morning, then, I will probably go insane..

A few more ideas
Everyone has said it all already, pretty much, but there is a book called, "Feel the fear and do it anyway." Now if you go buy the book, you'll realize that the title is kind of all you really needed to read, but that is beside the point. Being terrified is what most of us went through. Danniboy told this great story about imagining himself running down the hospital hallway, with his rear end hanging out of the gown, screaming , "NOOOOO". The fact is, as I went through all the IV stuff, etc. I almost literally felt the hands of my friends here, holding mine. Dyann and Zen had just had their surgeries, and they had done so well. I actually said to myself, if they can do this, so can I.
You will find comfort if you want to - we're here for you - we've been where you are.
By the way, since you haven't heard this story (everyone else please forgive me). The day I got my insurance approval, I hit a tree...in my driveway. Like - a tree I've been driving around for 4 years? It is amazing where your mind can go. It took 10 months for my daughter to stop yelling loudly, every time I had to stop suddenly, "Mommy hit a tree!!"
Also, I gathered a few key points of info. about my surgeon to help me feel better. The first was - how many have you lost ON THE TABLE. The answer was zero. Somehow that helped me out. It was unlikely I would be his first - I was young, and in relatively good health. He had lost a patient after 8 weeks who had a cardiac condition, but I didn't have one, so I thought - okay - should be alright there.
I didn't write letters to my family, but had a long talk with my husband about how to raise our kids if I didn't make it. I knew that my life insurance would take care of them (replacing my income at least) for about 5 years, so I wasn't worried about that. Sounds ridiculous, but those little comforts helped me a lot.
As they wheeled me into the OR, I was sobbing. Whe I got there, my surgeon looked at me with his amazingly blue eyes and said, "There is no crying in the OR!" with just the slightest smile on his face, and I knew I was going to be okay. I really did trust him with my life. An hour and 45 minutes later, it was over and I was on the other side. That was when the craziness really started! Long live Sugar Free popsicles!!
You know, somewhere in your heart/gut, that you will be fine. You worry as much as you need to, but no more. Find your strenghth and breathe. All is well - the world is a good place and it is about to get much, much better.

My advice is ... try not to make a bigger deal out of this than it really is.
Yes, this is serious surgery but there are zillions of serious surgeries going out there - many for more frivolous things like a boob job, nose job etc that folks don't make it through. I just read about a lady that went in for liposuction and didn't make it. DUH! And that's a very safe procedure these days!
Other folks survive the wls surgery just fine, are losing weight etc and at the tender age of 25, a plane falls on them.
You can't see around corners .. you can just make the best informed decison you can.
Try to take it easy.
