Default Did I do something wrong??

Today I was scheduled to have my psych and nutritional evals. This was to be the last of my testing. I was hoping to have the surgery in early May. I am currenlty in school to be a nurse, and I start my clinical/nursing courses in the Fall, and I have microbiology scheduled for 6/15/07-7/13/07. So I was hoping beyond hope that I would have surgery in early May (which I was told is definately possible) to be recovered enough to attend class in June and clinicals in Sept.

I met with the nutritionist. I really didn't care for her. She seemed somewhat condecending (sp??), but I was able to get over that. She told me that I need to follow a diet for a month, similar to the post op/lifetime diet. She said she will follow up with me in a month to check for compliance. Is this normal???

I am just so discouraged that my plan is not working. And I feel like I am being singled out by the nutritionist, KWIM. Tell me I am not too paranoid.

Thanks for listening.

Yes This Isvery Normal From What I Hear. I Personally Had To Lose 20 Lbs Preop Before My Surgeon Would Touch Me Says It Shows Determination And You Will Work The Program! Hang In There It Will Be Worth It. I Am A Student Too And Unfortunatly Had To Take Off A Semester To Have Mine Last Week. Small Sacrafice For Me. Ienjoyed The Break And So Did My Family.

Bummer, that is a drag. They do make you jump through a lot of hoops. I understand your disappointment though, as I'm a student also and had to take this semester off for my surgery. Does that mean you will not graduate with your class ?

I was able to eat whatever I wanted up to 10AM the day before surgery, after 10AM I was only allowed liquids, but ANY kind of liquid until midnight. I never had to diet pre surgery, maybe its how the Surgeon wants things and not so much your nutritionist. My surgeon and his staff work as a team with us and we are very prepared for what is coming after surgery, I am very thankful for each and every one of them. I must say the manual they give us to prepare for pre and post op is wonderful. It was with me every day and I read and reread it so many times. I will still go back and read when I need that boost to keep on track. Good luck to you.

Consider yourself lucky.. NORMAL in my surgeons office is 3 months with the nutritionist following most of the post op stuff.. on a bright note.. I have been doing it for 2.5 months and lost 40 pounds... you will be better off in the long run.. This is a major surgery, it is bound to interfere in your life.. but.. isnt it nice knowing that life will be here longer to be interrupted?
