Thumbs up Sugery soon; creating my support

Thanks Lisa for taking the time to gather all the "wish I had known"s from the group/s. I just joined TTF today. I had my second visit with the surgeon today and will have surgery scheduled; probably late June. Having done a meal replacement fast in 2003 and 2004, losing #140, then 2 knee injuries, and putting @ 80% of the weight back on, I am working on doing everything I can to make this decision successful. I know there are support groups here in SF but I think having some online support can be a major plus. I look forward to investigating all that is available here on TT.

I regret I had the surgery. Deeply regret it.
I aged some 15 years. Hair is all but gone. And I am 1 year out.

Bob, I'm sorry you are going through so much distress.
I'm just a little over 2 weeks out, so I certainly am not an expert and I don't know what the future holds, but way before I had my surgery, my surgeon was very clear that I had to take protein supplements for quite a while after surgery and a multi vitamin for the rest of my life.

I looked up Wernicke's encephalopathy and from what I've read, it sounds as though its caused by a Thiamine deficiency. The multi vitamin that I take lists that it contains 4000 percent of the daily recommended allowance of Thiamine and I take 2 pills a day, so even if my body only absorbs a fraction of the nutrients, I would think this regimen would provide enough to prevent a deficiency. Of course, like I said, I'm new on this journey and I won't know for for sure how my body will react to all these changes.

Did your surgeon stress vitamin and protein supplements and if so did you make sure to follow those recommendations?

Default Hindsight King....

I would've taken the couples counseling sessions more seriously or read more into the dramatic effects it can and will have on your marriage/relationship post surgery. If you don't think it can happen to you, like I thought about my marriage, DO IT!! It will be worth it in the end and the "spouse support" is a major factor when talking of the TOTAL success of your surgery (other than the weight loss figures).
