Thanks for this post. I am one month pre-op and this surely gave me a lot to think about on the emotional side of things. Some of it brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks,
Melinda

Thank you so much for this post! I'm the type of person who is nervous unless they know what's coming. This helps me to mentally prepare and have a better idea of what to expect! Thank you!

I wish I knew how difficult it would be to break the habit of opening the refrigerator every time I pass it to snack on something. My pouch is new, but my habits are old, and they don't get along very well.

Thank you so much to all of you for giving the very useful information. It really does help all of us who are contemplating or getting ready to have the surgery realize what we have in store for us.

We all know this won't be easy, but it will definitely be worth it in the long run.

I wish I had known I was going to be the "1 out of 200" to have the complications I had. I would have let somebody else have my turn.

I wish I had known how acid my stomach was going to become. (And I wish I knew now if that will change.)

It's been said, "what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger".

Having a band complication and spending a month in the hospital was not the best time of my life. It was even more agony knowing that my band was removed and my WLS was off the table.

I wish I could have known that I chose the wrong procedure. Am I stronger now for having survived it? I'll tell ya, my spiritual, familial and marital relationship triumphed so much and I/we overcame so many obstacles in these three areas just because of my complication that I'll keep it acknowledging it as a determining experience. Positive, not so much, but triumphant, definitely.

Nearly 16 TEN pound bowling balls down... OMG, let me pinch myself!

I don't want to know how much I have left to lose -- I find it encouraging to see how far I've come!

I wish I had known beforehand how VERY hard it would be to change my INSIDES as I drastically changed my outside appearance. Those internal changes took much longer than how long it took me to get to my goal weight.

It took years, I realize now as I look back, for me to work through all those things in my head, heart and soul that were deeply affected by being fat. All the weight that I wanted to lose was gone in under a year, but it took MUCH longer to adapt my eyes to see my new self.

I also wish I'd known that it would take a LONG time to wrap my mind around the fact that my new body was really going to be me FOREVER. It took awhile for me to really see the new me. I didn't expect that.

I also wish I'd known about the issues of getting hooked on OTHER things, instead of food, once food was taken away from me as a coping device and as a reliable friend.

Default Thanks

Just wanted to say Thanks for putting this together-- although it was a about two years ago. As a newbie I found this and definatley made me drudge up some of the emotional thoughts I have been having about getting WLS.
