Cool NEWBIE, Approved within 3 days, Surgery 3-19-07!!!

Hello to everyone. My name is Jami and I have been doing the work up for this surgery since 01/06. I am 31yrs and 5'7 and weigh in at 297.7 as of today. I am a proud mom of a 13 yr old girl and 3 yr old son. Engaged to the love of my life, childhood soulmate. Getting married next year. I was denied twice by Cigna. Then I left that Employer and signed up with Aetna. They sent in my request on 2/27, approved 03/01/07 and surgery scheduled for 03/19/07. I was soooo happy. It's been a long journey for me and at times very discouraging. A few of my friends aren't very supportive of this operation. They think that I can't handle it or I can just "work at it", like I used to. It's not the same this time. The weight isnt leaving and it's adding so many other health issues to my resume. I love my friends and I know they just dont understand, so I can fault them for being worried. I just told them that no matter what they feel, they will still need to be supportive of my decision. My fiance went to my appt today to get all the pre op information, he's been wonderful. I am the one that is soooo nervous and scared. Every other minute I am praying to GOD to watch over me. I just started with this job late january, they are understanding of the surgery (didnt tell them what I was doing), I just hope that I can bounce back quick, not going to rush myself though. If anyone can just let me know what to expect post op. Especially pain wise. Is it unrealistic to want to be back at work within a week of the lap procedure? I have heard of it done in my support groups. I dont do anything strenous. This is a new job so I dont want to burn my britches with them. Scared, nervous, excited. Welcoming anyone to respond. Needing more support from those that have been there, or are there now.

Congratz on surgery schedule.
I will tell you one thing. I will be one of those thats going to try as hard as I can to be back at work within a week of surgery. I work behind a desk preparing documents for court and seeing clients, so I have no heavy lifting.

Lets us know if you can do it within one week.

congrats on finally getting your approval and date, long journey so far, but so well worth it in the end

i had open rny and was back to work 2 weeks after, only 5 hours or so for the first week back, everyone is so different its hard to tell you what you will be able to tolerate or not, or if any other complications may come up, i think it would be best to book off more time, then you could always go back early if you felt up to it, just know that you will be very very very very very tired, i was more tired in the 3rd week to the 7th week than any other time, so take it easy if you can...good luck and keep us posted, you have just become another member of our family and now we need to know how you do.

Congratulations! Nervous and scared? Normal! Just read this forum and other web sites; the more informed you are, the less nervous you'll be. Trust me- I researched for 2 1/2 yrs! Back to work? A week may be a bit too soon, even for laproscopic, but you know your job, and you. Some have done it, some have needed a month. I had open, so 5 weeks for me! Remember, you're going to be eating a whole different way too, especially the first couple weeks, liquids, etc. Good luck!

Talking Thank you so much

I am so happy to be part of this family. I have been reading a lot of the threads and you guys are so supportive. Thank you. It is much easier to talk about my journey with those who completely understand what you are going through. My friends aren't really ok with it, but I told them that they dont have to agree with what i am doing, but they will supportive. I told my friend Aisha that she needs to take that day off of work,so she can be there along with my fiance. I am sooo anxious now, but before I know it, the big day will be here. 2 WEEKS AND COUNTING... I am trying to attach my pic to my profil but, I can't figure it out. Anyone have any advice, let me know.
