Question Panic Attack @ Sleep Study

Wow, So I wen t for my sleep study last weekend, they called me and said I have mild airway resistance and I was going to wear a mask on my next study (that was last nigh) Well.... I sleep with my mouth open and anyone who has worn this mask thingie knows that you cant sleep with you moutn open when you have air being forced up your nose. So I called the nurse and he basicly took a strap and tied my mouth shut.... bad idea... Not only was it totally uncomfortable, but I guess I just freaked out, I started feeling like I couldnt breath and sweating like crazy, my heart was racing.... It was horrible. I ripped the thing off.... And went home... This was horrible... The nurse said something about a mouth guard that you can get at the dentist... Does anyone have this or knwo what it is.... Is it comfortable, and did insurance pay for it?? Please let me know.

I tried the dental appliance for a couple of nights but it was very uncomfortable for me. (could just be the way they did it). I would wake up with it half way across the room. Insurance did cover it.

They actually have full face masks (covering nose AND mouth), ask about that instead.

They tried CPAP on me at my sleep study too - I freaked too. No way could I sleep with that thing on - felt like I was suffocating. I opted for laser nose and throat surgery that opened my airways and eliminated my snoring and sleep apnea. This all transpired years before my WLS so now with the weight loss those problems are long gone.

Default I have a SilentNiteŽ

I have a problem grinding my teeth. It's basicly a two-piece device with hinge connectors, that brings yor lower jaw forward and opens up your airway. The dentist takes molds for it in his office. It does keep your mouth closed, but I've broken mine 9 times in two years. I didn't have insurance to cover it or the repairs.

As Duckie said, they have full face masks. I know a guy who uses one, likes it a lot. The dipstick at the sleep clinic should have offered you one!
