fasting blood sugar 150, PCP hesitant on referral for GBS
it just seems like I'm in my PCP's office constantly.. he has scheduled another fasting blood sugar test + a two hour glucose tolerance test. He said if the 1st one is 125 or more, not to bother having the two hour one-diabetes is evident. wehn I told him I had a appt. with a GBS specialist, and needed a referral from him, he looked shocked...!!! I'm 5'5", 238 pounds, and have more pills and diagnoses that I care to mention......!!! you name it, I have it.....!!! now with diabetes added...... I can't wait until February 6th for my initial consultation.....!!! and I have my husband's full support, another wonderful surprise......!!!
To be honest and frank, up until about 8 months ago, I nevr considered myself obese; it was always those other "fat" people that needed the help--I just needed to lose a "few" pounds.... what really hit me was the trouble I was having wiping my own butt(ha ha-grose, huh..??) but true.......!!!
I'm on this site for hours at a time reading everything......!!! everyone is truly a blessing, especially for a newbie just starting the process.....!!!
thanks for listening......!!!

Yup!I was the happy "Fat" person...really was happy just very unhealthy.
Hey,Keep bugging the PCP for that referrel...YOU can control Type two DB with this surgery or cut meds in half ..or zero insulin....That is a bonus.
Keep up the good fight~
Best wishes with your consult,
V

Your height and weight indicate a BMI of 39.6 and you have several comorbidities which means your BMI could be as low as 35 and you'd still qualify for wls. Truthfully, my PCP was a little taken aback when I first brought it up to him as well. Once I pointed out my over 40 (at the time) BMI and all my comorbidities, he was completely supportive and issued the consult immediately.
I just had a fasting blood test and the 2-hour glucose tolerance test as part of a study my surgeon is doing. As long as they can get an IV in you, you'll be fine. Take something to read or do and relax. I was a little drained for a day, but not too bad. Don't expect to be running marathons after it's done.
Good luck on your journey!

thanks for all the support, from everyone......!! Hunnyblonde, my PCP is saying if the fasting blood sugar is 125 or higher, I don't need the two hour tolerance test. My 1st fasting blood sugaar last week was 150.
my next question or dilemma is how to tell family and friends..... I am sorta/kinda a personal individual and don't like to tell alot of people about my personal situations..... am I on the wrong track here.....???
all opinions welcome.......!!!

Did he look shocked, and then give you the referral? I am following your progress.. because your initial is 3 days before mine.. and because you are pretty close by relatively speaking.. and because you are looking for the fast track, and my curiosity insists that I watch that to see how it goes! Keep us posted..

my PCP didn't really look shocked, but I think he's a little baffled that I would advocate for myself rather than just follow orders... i used to be like that years ago; never question anything, just do what the doctor said. Well, now it's time for me to advocate for myself, learn as much as I can about this process and proceed for my betterment......
so if you see me posting on here quite frequently, that's the reason why...!!!
I've decided at this point in my life, it's all about ME.....!!! I can't blame it on anyone or anything... I'm determined to stay positive and work my hardest to get through the lows and highs of this procedure.......!!!
Everybody with me......!!!??? say: "YEAH".....!!!
