We are so similar in our situations. High blood Preasure does effect heart and Kindney function as well. I have so many tests before seeing my Bypass surgeon due to enlarged and I ronically they say that uncontrolled bllod preasure could be whats causing the problem. Hope I helped you some.

But he worried me because ht told me to cut my altace in half.. and umm.. its a capsule.. shouldnt he know that? lol.. I see him Monday so Im not fretting..

Enlarged heart its been that for about five years. That is one reason this surgery is a must. If the weight comes off then the heart may shrink. I to have problems with kidneys and protein.

I'm south of Kingston, Just North and left of Poughkeepsie. (Exit 19 off 87) And I might have exhagerated, I think it was actually 15...

So where are you having your surgery done. Obviously, Albany is too far away...

I used to know people in Poughkeepsie years ago, not sure if they still live there or not. You and I are almost neighbors (especially judging by the distance of most of the people on the forum).. (Hope the hip is better!)

I am going to have the surgery Syracuse- Upstate Medical University (SU), with Dr. Taewan Kim. Syracuse isnt the "closest" to me, but it was one of the two that didnt make alarms go off in my head. I didnt want the "fast track"..and I wanted to make sure there was a nutritionalist, and an excersize person... Had I not found someone closer that didnt scare me, I wouldnt have hesitated to go to Albany.. I am extremely paranoid about the surgeon.. hoping that all the research I have done on the doc I chose doesnt leave me disappointed, and that I actually LIKE the guy..

First of all:

CONGRATULATIONS on quitting smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the hardest thing I EVER did - and I quit when cigarettes went up to 75cents a pack - I have heard that the tobacco industry is now putting a greater percentage of nicotine in them, thus making it MUCH harder to quit! So it's a HUGE HUGE HUGE accomplishment!

As for the tests - I do remember having to do a stress test - wasn't too hard - just walk on a tread mill that they incrementally inclined until I told them "No more" - they told me the average person made it 2 minutes - I did that, too. - then they give you something intraveinously and you lie down for about an hour, they do another test - then you wait again..... I don't remember all the details - but it wasn't hard at all.

GOOD LUCK!

Well, after you meet him, you decide. You can still go to Albany and I can't say enough about their program. Rosati is also chief of Trauma surgery so he's amazing. Dr. Singh does the lap version and he's pretty good too. (I'm sure he's great, but I'll lean toward the Italian any day - excpet that he's actually Canadian, but anyway...)
