Default Will I have this surgery or not ?

I will be going to the hospital on Jan 4th. Very excited but nervous to.
I am still not losig the weight after being on the full liquid diet going on 2 weeks. Have not lost a pound. I am so upset. Not getting to much input from the Dr office. I am wondering if this is going to postpone my surgery
Very discouraged ! Wondering if they will take me anyhow. Set up the time at work not to mention my emotional state.Has anyone been refused because of this? Thanks

It's quite possible that they may postpone the surgery, it all depends on you doc obviously. I actually gained weight (not that I'm proud of it) before my surgery but it still went on as planned. I also did not have to go on fluids except the day before surgery. I think that if your doc sees that you have made substantial efforts for weight loss s/he wouldn't postpone it. Don't worry. It will happen when its meant for it to happen. *keepin my fingers crossed for ya!*

Why not call the office and let them know that you are following the guidelines...Ask if they require weight loss before surgery or is it to reduce the liver size..if thats the case, then they shouldn't cancel the surgery.

Liquid diet over Christmas....hats off to you girl. It shows your determination and committment. Hang in there.

I hate to give you any bad news but if you are gaining weight they may post-pone. Reason I say that is one the reason why they encorage you to lose in the weight is to help shrink the liver. if you are gainin you are increasing the size of your liver thus causing the risk of your liver being nicked. But like everyone has already said, call your doctor and get the 411 for your self. I hope everything works out for you. Its not to late to drop a couple of pounds by Jan 4th.

I was totally paranoid about gaining weight before my surgery. I went in for my one week pre-op appointment and he told me not to gain any weight between then and surgery. I was totally paranoid! Went in for surgery and they didn't even weigh me! All that worry for nothing! Good luck!

Default Each Doc. to their own!

Every Doc. does their own thing. Mine, won't let you gain a single ounce or he will totally postpone. We weigh in two weeks prior (when we start our pre-op diet, the week of if he's nervous, and the day of surgery.) Like everyone else said, call your Dr. and get the 411. No sense worrying about a problem that may not be one!

My girlfriend gained weight (6 lbs.) before her surgery and Dr. Potts read her the riot act. He was going to cancel it if it wasn't for her husband pleading her case for her. Good luck. Maybe you are just retaining water for now.

Not only did I not have to loose weight before my wls.. I did not have to do any sort of liquid diet the month before. I was not weighed for a month before the opperation to a month after. I guess all doctors are just different. Good luck with yours and yes, do call and find out.

Default staying the same

I have not had the chance to call the doc before the holiday but do have an appointment the day after. I will be talking with him then to make sure everything is a go. I did lose 3 lbs on my scale so that is a plus, plan on keeping it that way through Christmas.

Thank you for all your support and suggestions. It really does help.

Merry Christmas and Happy NewYear to you all, Be good SANTA is watching you

My doc was a little disappointed when I went to preop and didn't lose any more than the first 14 pounds but I lost 4 extra pounds when I was weighed before surgery.
