Default My first post

First of all, I want to thank the administrators of the site – this is a great site – it's terrific and I have gotten addicted to checking every day to “see” everyone. I joined the forum a while back and have been interested in hearing everyone’s stories and advice – I’m really glad to have found this group. You all seem so supportive of each other.

I got a call Friday from the surgeon’s office - all my paperwork has been faxed to the insurance co. This is the second time - the first was about 6 months ago and BCBS denied me and required me to do the 6 month diet thing, which I just completed Nov 30. Stephanie at Dr. Facundas’s office says that they deny the first time and give a list of reasons why – then we meet those requirements and resubmit, so they shouldn’t have any reason to deny the second time. The games they play!

Anyway, that was last Friday (Dec 15th) – she said that BCBS has 30 days to respond, but to give them a call about Wednesday and bug them – they may respond sooner. So I’m in limbo here – waiting and wondering and hoping. I’ve seen on here where some of you got approval right away and some insurance companies take a lot longer.

So maybe I’ll have a surgery date soon – he’ll do a lap RNY, which is the only procedure that BCBS will approve, but it was the procedure I was hoping for, too. I’d really like to have it done before the New Year’s (I was REALLY hoping for Dec 12th). I don’t care if they do it Christmas Day – well, maybe the day after – or the day after that...

Do any of you have any thoughts about having the surgery around the holidays? Wait or not?

Hello! Just want to you wish you the best on getting that approval from the insurance, hope you find out soon! I think if I were in your position I'd wait until after the holidays. Actually I was in your position last year, waiting to know if the surgery was approved & the date. I was glad it was early in the year because then I didn't have to deal wtih the holiday food tempting me. Now I'm 10 months out and I will be able to enjoy the holidays. Now I know very well what I can & can't eat and enjoy a treat or two on Christmas day & New Years.

I know that if I have the option of having the surgery before the beginning of next year, that I am going to ask if I can wait. I agree that the holidays are stressful and tempting enough, I don't want to add in a laid up Mommy to the mix. So I am hoping the January will be my month .

I will keep my fingers crossed that you get your approval this time!!! Good Luck!!

I had my surgery just this past Wednesday, December 13th. Ryn, you and I have the same rebirthday!!

I actually waited to have my surgery for about 6 or 7 weeks (had an audit at work in November so I couldn't do it then). I wanted to get it covered in this year medical deductible so i opted for December.

I am doing really well so far with the liquids so I am hoping the smell of food at Christmas will be okay. I'll be on pureed foods on Christmas so we will see.

I think it is more important to coordinate it when you will have the most help around you, and support. Best of luck getting a date and welcome to the board.

I'm a single mom and my only child is grown and living 500 miles away and is unable to come home this year - he just started a new job & can't get off long enough - I really don't think I can go there - so I've kinna put that out of my mind - I've waited so long to do this, I'm becoming more determined with each little setback - right now I think I'm thinking I just want to get it done as quickly as possible!

I wanted mine done before the end of the year. I would have preferred the week after Christmas, but my doctor takes that week off to spend with his kids. I had my surgery on Dec. 11 so I'll be able to do mushies on Christmas Day. I am so determined to make this work that I know that the Christmas smells won't bother me, at least not too much. I have already been around my hubby while he was eating and I've been to a support group meeting where they were eating, too. If I can watch my husband eat bread in dipping oil, fetuccini alfredo, lasagna, and chicken parmesan, I think I can handle anything. Heck, by the time Christmas comes around, I'll be wanting something besides liquids so bad that I'll be happy with my mushies!

Any date they give you would be a blessing. But everybody is different. When they give the available date you will know if that is the right date for you or not. My fingers are crossed for you.
