Default Pre-op tommorrow!! Nervous daughter!!

I have my pre-op tommorrow and it is all getting very real. I talked to my manager today. I did not want to give all the details, and the letter from Dr. C. only states abdominal surgery. I wonder if I should just tell them. I don't think they will understand. Does any one know if I have to say more than what Dr. C. wrote?

Any way, I am a bit nervous. To say the least. I am starting the count down. 12 more days. Less than 2 weeks!!!

Was wondering what all the post op people suggest for protein shake. What brand and where to get it??

I am getting weird emotions from my 16 year old daughter. I think she is worried, but is coming up with the strangest comments. My hubby is o.k. and my sons are, too. Amanda and I are pretty close and I hate to think if something were to happen, how she would be affected. You guys have been there. I can't help but think of this junk. Any suggestions???

Looking forward to the other side!!

Rain

Rain,
I did not tell my work and it is a good thing for me. It is none of their business. I work with a bunch of sabotagers that like me FAT!!! I would've never been able to get the time off if I told them the truth. Really, it is your decision. I am just so happy with mine. As for the weight loss, I just tell them that I am sticking to a strict diet. LOL.

As for my family members, they were all so nervous. They were afraid I was going to die. My husband was worried and my kids were so scared. It was worth every frightening minute. You will be just fine. You are in good hands.

Good luck with your surgery! The ride of your like is about to begin!

Rain,
I don't know your daughter but I can only assume that being 16 is hard enough and then for her to have to deal with the possibility of losing you, might be a little to much for her to grasp right know. I think the weird comments comes from being frightened and not in control of what could happen. At that age they think about what could happen to them if something were to happen to you. That is very scarey! You are her strongest female role model because I believe you said your other children are sons so she has a strong bond with you. The only thing I can say that I am sure you are probably doing already is to reassure her every minute you can how much you love her and how much she means to you and ask her how she feels about the whole surgery thing.
As for the work thing, I only told my immediate supervisor about the surgery because I felt I had to. I am going to have to talk to H.R. when I get my surgery date. As for everyone else, that's up to you. I have chosen to only tell a few I am really close to because word spreads so quickly and you always have negative people that try to bring you down. This way I can delay it a bit by not saying anything right now.
Good luck to you. I will keep you in my thoughts! Tara

I grew up in Oceanside/Vista area. I live in Escondido now. Good to see some North County friends over here.

Default Rain,

My kids and husband were all scared too. I did reassure them that I found the best doctor out there - Dr. C. I told them that I'm in God's hands and He will be sure that my outcome is in His plan. The emotions you, and everyone else in your family, are going through are normal and expected. I wish you peace these next two weeks!

We're here for you whenever you need us.

You know in regards to your work you are the only one who really know them so its going to be your call. Just don't do anything you are not 100% comfortable with. You don't have to tell them a thing. I mean I told my work and they been great with it. I have been so lucky with the people I work with being very supportive for me. Just play it by ear and enjoy the ride of your life you are starting.

As for your daughter you know I'm pretty young so I remember what is was like to be 16. Its hard to think about losing your mom at that age when you are very close. I remember at that age my mom worked at a place she had to do bank deposits every day around the same time of day. On one after noon I was home sick from school and turned on the news and the bank she was suppose to be at was being held up. I freaked out calling her work and her cell and couldn't find her. I have never been so afraid in my life as I was at that min thinking about losing her. You know from that day forward I never hang up the phone mad or without saying I LOVE YOU. We made that a promise. Basicly I'm just saying tell her how much you love her and it's in god's hands now. I'm sure she loves you more than she can say and is just worried about you.

Good luck and CONGRATS ON THE DATE

I agree, if you are not comfy telling your work, don't. I told mine and by the time I came back from the operation just about everyone here knew what surgery I had had. They are all super supportive, actually they are more like mama hens (and they are all guys!). "You sure you should eat that?" comes out frequently. Yes, I can eat a salad, yes I can eat bacon, yes......etc. It is kinda cute actually.
