Smile Welcome!

Hi Carolyn,
Welcome to the other side. Congratulations on your surgery. The first week is a difficult one because you're trying to get used to the new size of your pouch. It does get better as time goes by...I promise you that. as far as other "clear" liquids you can eat now, there are sugar free popsicles, sugar free jell-o, broth, iced tea. In the beginning, I did eat the popsicles, but tired of them pretty quickly. My husband made every flavor Jell-o for me to have available. Water and ice kept me going. Your choices will get better in the next few weeks.

Best of luck to you and keep coming back here for continued support.

Default Carolyn,

Glad to hear that you are home and doing well. One thing that really helped me during the liquid phase was wonton and egg drop soup strained. It was heaven on earth. I was hungry too during the first week. I had to mix up the jello, SF popsicles, broth, etc. to get variety. Drink water, walk and don't do anything strenuous!

Keep your spirits up! You'll be melting away too!

Thumbs up Great Suggestion!

I did not think of that. Strained egg drop soup. What a cool idea. Thank you very much. There is a place around the corner from my house that makes great egg drop soup. So, I guess just make sure to drain it. very cool.

Thanks,

David

Smile Carolyn,

I am so glad to hear you are doing well. I had a drain as well and I was really upset because I didn't eat after 1PM the day before to try and avoid it. However, the drain was in my abdomen and not in my old tummy. Dr. C just said he felt it was the safest thing to do so I went with it. I was pretty "juicy" as he said. I wish he had left it in longer though, because I ended up having to have my incision opened up and have it packed for a while, due to extra fluid pushing through. But it's ok I am glad it is over now.

The other folks gave great advice on liquid foods for you. Kelly may actually call you today and tell you to go on to soft foods as she usually calls on Monday's.. either way you won't feel much like even eating a little bit of food for a while, if you are anything like me. Just do what you can and don't worry.. you can't get too much liquids.. take it easy and remember to walk!!

Default David,

You'll be so ready for something different from the jell-o, popcicles, tea and broth. Wonton and egg drop soup saved me. One serving of each one will last the whole week post op. LOL Isn't that a kick to believe?
