Default Well I had my consult...

I had my consult today for surgery. Well maybe not surgery, but definitely not the way right now I thought it would go down.

So I get to the consult, and the Dr walks in and he asks me what meds I am on. I give him the list, and I get a hesitant "um why are you taking all these" SO I told him it is because I have cadiomyopathy. He seemed stunned. (I went there thinking he was given the heads up about me) He asked my Heart Function and I told him. He said he wont do RNY on me, my EF is 30, which I didn't think is too bad, I have fought for 2 years to even get there! SO he stands up and get s his partner. The other Dr comes in and he asks me who my Dr's are and I tell him. He then says oh yeah you are the one that Dr. M mentioned to me the other day! (OK so he did at least mention me) So he said that since this is a big surgery that they will have to do it in 2 parts. First being the Band, then later the RNY, if my heart reacts positively to the weight coming off the way we all hope it will. He seemed a little more at ease with me, and told me this is the way he wants to approach it. I agreed but they both want to talk to my cardiologist. Which is what I knew they would, because I wouldn't take someones word for it, and then have something happen.

Anyways this is where I am at waiting for them to talk to my card who is on board with the procedure. (I had to wait 16m. to finally get to this point)

SO hopefully I will be hearing soon. I am trying to think that if he wont do it, then I will just go to the original hospital I was going to go to and have a consult there.

so that is what is new. I just hope I don't have to wait for their decision to long either way, I hope they put me out of my misery soon!!!!

Valerie, I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but it sounds like your drs. are being very thorough, which is what you want in a situation like this. You don't want someone to put you at more risk. So be thankful they are wanting to take care of you and make the best possible decisions regarding your health. Just stay positive and do what needs to be done to get there. We will be here with you every step of the way.

I know it's not what you wanted to hear-perhaps if you have too many problems you can find a Dr. who takes high risk patients. Mine does--but I don't know how far you are from Pittsburgh, LOL. Anyway, this coming Tuesday will be 5 years since my daughter went to be with the Lord from that same awful disease-so take special good care of yourself.

Default Thank you

Thank you!

I know I will get there. And its weird I feel like if he wont take me on as a patient that someone else will, and it will be for the best if he doesn't. I don't want to have surgery with someone who doesn't think he (or she) will do OK with me.
It is a weird calm I am feeling about it. I was a little surprised with the thought of the banding, I wont lie. I never really thought about it. In the 6m. class I took we focused on the RNY and barely were given 10m. on the banding, or DS surgery. So once I wrapped my brain around the idea I thought you know that isn't a bad thing maybe a lot slower, but I will get there. I want the good outcome too. Because at the root I am doing this to improve my heart, and get me back.

So while I cant wait for their decision, I am mentally planning a no go from them and in my head moving on to plan B, which is a new Dr.

But I want to thank you guys for responding to my post your support means a lot...
