The only suggestion I have is to stay away from the broth. I never knew how much sodium it had. It made me retain water like crazy. Stay strong.
I'm having surgery on Monday at 2:30pm. They say nothing past midnight the night before. I am hooked on water now. I cant imagine going that long without something to drink.

You say you can't drink three protein shakes a day now, how are you going to handle the liquid only diet AFTER surgery? If you "cheat" then and have a veggie, or cottage cheese (for example) before you are supposed to you could cause yourself great harm.
If your surgeon requires this two week liquid diet it is most likely to see if you can do it. To see if you are truly serious about surgery. I guess I look at it differently than others. Or maybe I"m just a big meanie?

I am sure that you will be able to get through this. You need to have confidence that you can as well. Now is a great time to rethink your relationship with food. Food as nourisment, something that helps our body and brain function. After I hadn't "eaten" for a few days it was easier for me to see my triggers( angery, bored, depressed). Stay busy and maybe try some different protein supplements. I tried the Nectar brand and they are pretty good. Some people swear by Unjury. It comes in several flavors. I have order the unflavored so that I can mix it with whatever I want.
And the best part of all I have lost 16lbs.
Good Luck

Hi...I am new to the site but not to the struggle. Surgery is Oct 18th, and I am on day 5 of liquids. LOTS of water, diet soda (should buy stock in Diet Coke!), 3 'slimfast' shakes a day mixed with soy protein powder and a little broth. I have to lose 10 pounds before the 18th- have already lost 8!!! This part doesn't worry me as much as the pureed part- yuck!!
Keep working at it & walk alot! Or go on line when you get hungry or rearrange your closet, do anything to take your mind off your belly ... Good luck on the 18th !!

Hi.
My surgery is Nov 1 and I was told that I only had to do the clear liquid diet one day before my surgery. I was really surprised when he said that because I have been reading the forum and reading that everyone had to do the two week liquid diet. So it was a surprise when he said one day.
Good luck on your two week liquid diet! You can do it.

I am starting the liquid diet tomorrow, and am going to do it as prescribed. I actually like the shakes, but hate the weak, shakey feeling I get when I don't eat enough. Hopefully this won't happen this time. It has always happened to me in the past when I did Atkins or Medifast, so I never lasted on those diets. (or any other one for that matter!). I am committed to having the surgery and changing my ways, so will get through this liquid diet! I appreciate all your advice and even the "tough love"! LOL!

Yeah, I planned to do it as prescribed as well and God bless you if you can. For those food addicts who were able to drop from eating 4,000 calories a day to 300 and do it without a problem, good for them. More power to them! I'm jealous.
I'm having this surgery so I can have a tool to deal with my problems with food. It's not mental hunger I'm fighting at this point, it's physical hunger. If it were mental hunger, no amount of vegetables added to the diet would satisfy that. I don't think it's a big surprise that I can't handle this, that's why I'm getting surgery. I'm really surprised that everyone else seems to have been able to do it so easily.
I don't have a problem with the taste of the shakes I'm drinking. They taste pretty good to me. 80 calories of liquid just doesn't satisfy my hunger long enough for anything and I'm feeling weak, light headed and woozy all the time. I can't even work when I'm feeling like this.
So I'm going to email my doctor on Monday and ask him what I should do. If he says I can't have the surgery until I can get through 2 wks. of clear liquids only, then I'll probably cancel and find someone who is less strict.
Btw, at this point, I've lost ELEVEN POUNDS in four days. If all I had to do before surgery was drop 10 lbs., I'd have it in the bag!

btw, I'm not trying to seem bitchy or anything either. I really do appreciate everyone's comments and I agree with them. I shouldn't be eating anything.
I really had hoped I'd be able to do this, but I'm having a hard time beating myself up over eating a cucumber and some mushrooms, I guess. I will make sure my system's empty for surgery and hope for the best.

I agree with you totally! The liquid diet is hard! Yes, I know you that you do a liquid diet after surgery, but since our stomach's aren't 2 oz yet, we are going to be hungry, weak, and lightheaded...and I'm with you, I don't function well like that!! I also agree that if you have to have some veggies, or a sugar free jello or even soup, it's nothing to stress over. I am going to give it my all and do my best, that's all I can do. Good luck to you and I will keep you posted. So far, so good. I'm 1/2 way through day#1! lol! Have a good day. xoxoxo
