Pre-op Bloodwork Results--Should I be worried?
My doc called today and left a message on my home phone saying she got my bloodwork results in and wanted to let me know. That I should I call her. Of course by the time I got the message she was gone for the day.
Now I'm worried they might have found something that would disqualify me for wls. I'm not even sure what tests they did. I just know they took 4 vials of blood. Anyone have any idea what tests they usually do for pre-op?
Bleeeah, I hate the unknown!

Maybe you are a bit low in iron?
Did they do the H-pylori test? If you have H- pylori bacteria in your intestines, sometimes they want you to take antibiotics to get rid of it prior to surgery. They told me you can get it from basically any restaurant where someone didn't wash their hands properly. I had a trace of it, but not enough that I needed medication. I was low in iron, so I had to make sure my levels were hight enough.
With the past 2 surgeries that i recently had, my RBC's were low, hemoglobin, and hematocrit, too were low and the nurses thought for sure they would postpone. Both times, different hospitals, and both surgeons went ahead and approved me to have surgery.
I wouldn't worry too much. It may just be that they want to let you know that everything is ok. I will be thinking of you and hope all is ok.

I wouldn't worry too much. She probably just wants to go over the results with you. I can't remember off the top of my head what all they checked with me before surgery but the ones I do remember are CBC (checks for anemia), CMP (which is electrolytes and some other things), Lipid panel, Liver panel, folate, urine and probably a few others.
I had all of these things drawn the first time I was evaluated by the surgeon and then just 1 week pre-op. There probably is a good chance most of the preop labs were just repeats from labs you've previously had done so if there wasn't a problem before I would suspect things are still fine.

Thanks Beth and Dale. These were my first, eval draws. I've always been a little anemic. Whenever I try to donate blood, they won't take it due to low iron. Hopefully that's it and I can start some iron or a multivitamin to take care of it.
Thanks girls. I'll be calling her first thing in the am!

I take Ferrous Fumerate(Iron Complex)..From Henry's along with vitamin C to help assimilate the iron because I am always low in iron. It is less constipating and has been easier on the stomach for me. Just thought I would throw that out there in case iron bothers you.

Honeyblonde,
I agree with the others, propably just low in iron since you are already aware of it. To answer your qestion about what pre-op labs are drawn; I have made a file from the first day of starting toward the WLS to make a paper trail of all paper work going in and out. The lab tests that I needed from my GBP surgeon were: CBC;FULL CHEM PANEL;H-PYLORI ANTIBODY TITRE;HEPATITIS PANEL;
HIV;LIPID PANEL;TSH;URINALYSIS;EKG;GALLBLADDER ULTRASOUND;PSYCH CON
I've been in dictation 2 weeks now. Anyone know when I will get out?

Results!
Ok, apparently I they found the H-PYLORI ANTIBODY in my bloodwork results. They're going to start me on a 2-week course of erythrymicin & amoxicillin (and a dose of Diflucan since antibiotics give me a yeast infection). Whew! Thanks for all the replies and advise! Looks like it won't be a problem with the wls.
