Psych Eval
Hi guys,
I was wondering what the psych eval is like. I've heard that it can be anything from just a written test to an interrogation. Just wanted to hear some of your experiences.
Thanks!

For me it was a quick 10 min thing with a Doc.
He asked me if I heard voices or ever thought about killing myself. I said NO and he said ok.
It was lame. Good luck

Mine was just a normal conversation about the surgery and my thoughts and feelings. She asked general things about my life to make sure it was a good time to go through such a change. Then I had to do that test that asks if you think people are out to get you and if you like your father. It was not a big deal and she was very supportive after talking with me.

My meeting with the psychologist was an hour long. She mainly asked questions about my understanding of what gastric bypass surgery was, and what my expectations were. I think she was wanting to see if I had unrealistic goals for myself. She asked about family history, and dieting history. I think she was making sure I knew what I was getting myself into, and that I was capable of making the lifestyle changes necessary for success.

Mie was a joke. I spent maybe 10 minutes shooting the breeze with a guy who was more interested in discussing what classes I was taking at the university than any issues related to my desire to have weight loss surgery. Good thing he only charged me $ 75.

On my second eval....(next town over)
No questions where ask ...he started dictating and reading what he was writing down, maybe 5 to 7 mins tops...and then wished me the best.gave him a hug and thanked him...
first phys was a nightmare from my home town doc...he wrote that I was bulimia.....ha!..go figure!

Wow guys thanks. Did you have to find your own doctors or did they refer you? I'm being scheduled for surgery, and nothing about a nutritionist or psych eval have been mentioned so I'm guessing that after I get a date then they'll give me that info... I thought most people had the eval before being scheduled but I guess not.
Sounds, generally, like it's nothing to stress over. Thanks so much!

My pysch evalutaion consisted of:
20 min conversation w/ the pyschologist
3 hours of personality test..you know the fill in the dot ones
all in all the pysch eval alone was just over $800 w/ the tests
Funny thing is..the insurance covered all of that but none of the bill for my appt. w/ the nutritionist that was required

No doctor referred me to one..
I called a phys here but, he didn't do it for gastric bypass..I ask her(the receptionist) if she knew of any around here that would do it. she suggested Dr.Lee ,...which was 30 miles from me.and luckily he did it for the gastric bypass.
