I stayed in my dad's inlaw apartment at my brother's house. My dad was still in FL so he wasn't using it. lol THey would go get me milk (for CIB drinks), broth, popsicles, etc. I really didn't need much but it was nice to know someone was right there if I needed them.

My Mom stayed with me for the first week, and was close by for all the weeks following when I had complications. The first week was a godsend though because I have 3 kids all under 8, and she did everything including making meals!! It was awesome to just sip, walk, and concentrate on getting fluids in and not what chores had to be done or if the kids ate their meals and cleaned their messes up!! I would also take your MIL up on her offer! You will be soooo glad you had some time.. Trust me!

My mom flew out for 3 weeks, left while dad and step mom came, and then returned a week later for another week. In total I had about 5 weeks of aftercare from my parents as hubby wasn't able to take time off. I had mine open and was pretty weak afterwards and very emotional

My ex will take my daughter for however long i need him to but I don't have anyone to stay with me. I don't think I will really need anyone, cause I do like to be alone. Maybe I will just lay around watching tv and playing on my laptopl

My surgery is November 1 and my sister said that I could stay with her and her family for as long as I need to. The only problem is that she is 4 1/2 hours away from my surgeon. I have been working directly with my surgeon. So, it might be tough to get to my appointments being so far away, but the offer is there. She actually goes in for a tummy tuck Oct 5 so I will be looking after her and her family while she heals. She said she wants to return the favor. So, it all depends on when I have to be back for a follow up. If I have to stay home I have all of my family helping me because I moved back home while I do this gastric surgery and also my jaw treatment.

Daisy, I am a Nohr patient and live 14 hours from his office and hospital. I stayed in Medicine hat for 2 weeks after surgery. Had to go back one time for a stricture, otherwise unless I want, I go to my regular doctor for checkups. Of course I will go back to Nohr for consult on a panni.

Default Need vs Want..

ALthough I had my hubby nearbye for the first week, which was great, I can't say that there wasn't anything I couldn't do. ( Didn't need to shop or anything, didn't have any babies or tots to lift). My only real "need" was that I had a drain, and it grossed me out, so he emptied it for me. I think it was in for 5 days. It did not hurt or anything, it just creeped me out to look at it. My hubby is a fire captain, so he has no problem with that. Otherwise, I was fine on my own.

You need to trust your gut. If you feel more comfy having someone near, than you should ask for that assistance.

FYI, I had an uneventful lap GB, so I had no open incision or hernia issues. THose would require more assistance, everyone is different. I slept in my own bed from the get go, and had no real pain issues except if I overate.

Best of luck to you on your brave journey.

M
