Default I needed help

My husband took off a few days...I had open and needed help getting up. I also enjoyed him helping me prepare broth and stuff. I was too weak. The kids were around, but knew to just behave as best as they could.

Since I had complications I wasn't able to look after my 2 year old grandson for a good month. When my daughter had her's a month after mine she needed help for 2 weeks after hers.

So I would suggest to have a plan in place just in case you need it.

My Mom was here to help out, but I didn't really need help. It was nice to have her here for the household chores and such though. Your kids are old enough that it shouldn't be a problem, but I'd still use mil if she doesn't flake out......you'll feel like sleeping a lot and being left alone most likely. I bet you'll do fine. If you have complications I would think the hospital could set you up with a former wls patient to stop over and help out. I know ours has that.

Default A few days

My mother and husband were both with me for 5 days. As I've said before, I had a pretty easy recovery from my open surgery (I could sleep in my bed the first night home, just needed about 30 pillows) but I was the nap queen. What my helpers did was take care of the kids - I have a 2 1/2 year old, who was as good as she could be, but I couldn't do anything with her since I couldn't lift her or bend over to tie shoes very well.

After the first week, I started driving, and though I still needed help with lifting things (and opening windows - ouch - that was a painful lesson) I was pretty self-sufficient after that.

Really - once I was off pain meds (day 6) I was feeling pretty good.

I was just fine to do for myself but I did have my room mates there just in case of an emergency, which thankfully didn't occur.

i was told not to pick up my 10month old for 2 months, so I had to hire a nanny to come and help me, she is here for 2 months while my husband is at work, it works out great since I cant lift him in and out of the crib and highchair.
