Default Newbie With Questions por favor

Hello Everyone,
So I been considering getting the surgery.
Im 27 weight 325 and im 5'11.

I go in to the Nutritionist for a consultation and she feels that I dont need it and I should just go on a diet. I showed her what types of foods I eat and the diets i been on for the last few years. She agrees that what I eat is actually purdy good but she thinks if i cut it down onthe eating and do more ex. that I will not need this surgery.

I tried explaining to her that i have not lost a substantial amount of weight in the last few years and this is starting to become a big concerned for me. I dont have a normal "obessed" body. I actually have thin legs and somewhat thin arms. Like i told her I use to work out like crazy and i never saw my stomach area get smaller only my legs and arms. Ive tried multiple diets and excersise routines. None seem to work.

This is what concerns me is that i loose weight on my legs and arms but my stomach area is Massive. I tell her it concerns me cuz thats where all my vital organs are.

So for my diet she really didnt put me on one she just revised a three day meal plan that i gave her. So honestly I dont see how im now on this 6 month diet. She also told me I only had 1 consultation with her. So how am I suppose to get monitored?????

My Primary Dr. Is trying to switch me to an new medical group to see if we can go to another Nutritionist that can possibly skip the 6 month ordeal.

Does any one have any suggestions?? Anything would help =0)

Hi and welcome. It's different for everyone, depending on the primary doc. Your primary doc should monitor you monthly to qualify for the "6 month medically supervised diet". Mine made me go thru that before I could get the referral. It all worked out in the end. I had my surgery on July 11 of this year. Best of luck to you (a little luck never hurts). Read all you can, so you can be prepared for what is involved in the process. The folks here are so wonderful.

Default Some questions

Hi G-Lo,

First let me say WELCOME! I'm a newbie here too and found this to be the greatest bunch of people. So nice and helpful.

Do you have any co-morbidities like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, PCOS, diabetes, etc? If so, these could all be helped with wls so you're not a walking time bomb.

I can't tell from your post or profile if you're male or female, but if you're female, do you know what PCOS is? Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The body shape you described with thinner arms and legs and all your weight in the middle, is a known shape for women with PCOS. There are many other signs/symptoms of PCOS if you do an internet search for it you can read all about it. If the symptoms fit, you can ask your doctor about diagnosing you for it. From personal experience, nutritionists seldom know about PCOS and how our bodies process food.

According to an internet BMI calculator your BMI is over 45. Your primary doctor should support you in wls with this kind of BMI especially if you have any of the co-morbidities (and others I didn't mention).

Good luck and welcome again.

Default Large mid section?

Hi G-Lo,

Welcome to the forum and as you can see, I wasn't able to get approved for the surgery. My height and weight were similar to yours last October when I started a diet and exercise program for the umpteenth time, so I know how you feel.

One thing I also want to suggest to you is that you get checked for insulin resistance if you haven't already. A symptom of IR is also carrying more weight around your mid-section and it is usually considered a co-morbidity.

I'll cross my fingers for you and hope you get approved. This diet and exercise thingy is tough, and I wouldn't wish the denial from insurance on anybody, but know that whatever route you take, it is the best for you and you can make it through it! Chin up!
