What is expected of person with you
I finally have a date for surgery.
August 7th.
I will be at Pomerado Hospital.
I need to know what is expected of the person who will be with me.
Does she need to spend the night in the hospital or can she go home?

Ours were expected to leave. They had us up and walking the halls and sipping right away. They stayed until early evening I think, then came back the next day.

Club Pomerado allows your helper t spend the night upon check in the morning of surgery.
I can attest that by the end of the surgery day, your help will want to go home and rest.
My husband slept at home and came back each morning to be with me for the lions share of each day. I really did not need him as there are the most amazing staff at Pomerado!
(Mary Birch Hospital, is also fab!)
You will need care at home for driving errands, as I could not drive too well the first week. Also, if you have kids, they may need care as you may not be able to care for children right away.
The first weeek is tough, but really and honestly, you are the only on ewho can get through it, and any help you can get will be for other things, like house cleaning, cooking and kids, etc.
Good Luck!

I just got home today. My hubby needed to be there during the surgery in case any decisions needed to be made. When I came thru, they were there to comfort me and ask for things I didn't have the strength of voice to ask for, they reminded me to do my breathing exercises, and walked the halls with me. My best friend Mel was amazing. Hubby had to be at work the day after surgery, after we knew I was good, so she was there, motivating me, keeping my spirits up and getting whatever I needed. Your buddy will not need to spend the night in the hospital, but they do have a cot type thing for a loved one/supporter to sleep on, and are great about pillows, blankets for them.
Congrats on your date! You are in excellent hands. I was very VERY PLEASED with the care I received at Pomerado Hospital.

Congrats on your date... I was at Sharp Memorial aka Mary Birch Hospital and the staff was awesome! My fiance stayed with me every night it wasn't neccesary but he knows I have a very difficult time sleeping by myself and he didn't want me to be scared. First thing in the mornings my mom came and helped me take a shower and walk then she would stayed with me most of the day. About noon my fiance would go home and take a nap, shower, ect... then come back in the afternoon. When I came home from the hospital the doctor said it would be a good idea for someone to be with you or close by for the first week home so my mom and fiance switched off "hanging out" with me. LOL! What big baby sitters... It is deffinatly nice to have the help...

One of the greatest things about Pomerado are the staff.. but your buddy and friends can help you wander the halls when things don't feel so good.
I believe it's a personal decision about your buddy spending the first night. There isn't much sleep, that's where my nurse "Bill" came into play.
His helper searched the halls for some jello... he came to the rescue with some liquid tyenol that tasted like heaven and took my headache away.
Great place.. good luck.

I don't know about your hospital, but my mom stayed with me the whole time. I mean, she spent the night and during the day when she left my dad and my sister and friends came in and visited me

My support was my hubby and my mom - they both came and went during the days and then went home at night to sleep and be in a "normal environment. Then they both took care of me at home when I was released. Thank God for the both of them!

my husband is coming with me on the 31st and my mom and dad too! My husbands going to stay home with me a couple of days and then he'll work part of the day too. I have a kid still at home and she's going to drive me where I need to go. It's great we have all this support isn't it!
