Default Bum cleaning after surgery

If you have read my story then you will know that the final straw for me came when I started having a hard time reaching my bum to wipe. FYI it has gotten better with the pre-surgery weight loss!

BUT I was thinking.... after surgery... can you wipe your bum on your own? Or do you need assistance? Because if I do.... I won't be going until I heal! No ONE would volunteer to help!

What did you do?

Default I had help - and not

For the most part, the nurses are supposed to help you with anything you can't do - I was unfortunate to have gained about 30 lbs of water weight while I was in the hospital and a couple of nurses helped without complaining. However, there was one nurse who complained about helping and wanted to know what I was going to do when I got home...I didn't answer her. My dh was also sweet enough to help - by the time I got home I was losing the 30lbs. and just managed on my own.

unfortunately yes, i needed help with that for a good week or so. I think it depends on your size though and how your healing.. I had a tough healing and i was 350 lbs.. so therefore.. it was hard for me. It was embarrassing to ask hubby for help, but he was nice enough to do it.

I didn't have a bowel movement til day 4 and by that point I was feeling a lot better and could do it myself with no problem... but I never had a problem doing it to begin with. Everyone's different tho.

I never had an issue prior to the surgery but I simply couldn't do it for a good two weeks... too painful and I had horrible diarrhea while in the hospital so the nurses had to do it... they had no choice in the matter and then my hunny (fiance then, now hubby) had to help me which was horrid for me.. he was as sweet and as solicitous as one could be but I was mortified- even now a year and a half after the wedding, the door stays firmly shut.. I'm just not one that cares to share that part of my day lol..

If you are concerned about not having help you need, there are living aids that can help..

Here is one:

Amazon.com: Ideaworks Long Reach Comfort Wipe: Clothing

hope that helps!

My job is to help wipe hineys...or to teach one how to do it themselves (even better!!) One suggestion we have is to use salad tongs....True Story.

I was much more worried about how to handle the tampon/period thing. Which, by the way, has been an issue each and every time I have been in the hospital for some reason.

Oh my goodness! I have NEVER heard of such a thing. And I'm wondering if some of the commenters are people really telling there story..... seems fishy..

I may just have to figure it out. HOPEFULLY I won't have a problem.... I really don't see anyone helping me.... I'm trying to remember if my husband helped me when I had my double mastectomy... I can't remember him helping me... But I do remember struggling to do it myself. I guess this is something I need to pray about.

Thanks for everyones answers.

Should never be used together... Ever. I've seen a lot here on TT, however i will never look at tongs the same ever again..

Should i even ask, how you would use them?

Note to self:

Don't eat the salad at chrissie and kelly's house. You never know what kind of freeky deeky crap (pun intended) their tongs have been involved in.

And to stay on topic...Stacey how does that work? Would the tongs and the charmin not make a hot mess with no more tong control then one would have?

I crapped on day 4 with no clean up issues whatsoever.
