I think I have been eating too much 3 days post op.
Example:
Water (w/pills)
Water sipping
Breakfast: pudding
Water sipping
Protein shake (takes about 2 hours to drink)
Water sipping
Lunch: Jell-O
Water sipping
Protein shake (or just water)
Water sipping
Dinner: soup broth
Water sipping
Popsicle
does this sound to much? the shakes are hard to drink....

I am 4 days post op and under my doctors program, I am only able to eat 3 times a day, I chose to do sugar free jello (2 different flavors) and chicken broth for my meals, and each consists of 2 oz servings. Under my program, it sounds like you are eating to much, but mayabe you have different needs than I do. I hope you are also getting your walks in, cause i am learning that it gets better everyday as long as you continue the walking. Keep in touch, I would like to be updated on your progress.

Do you not have to drink the protein shakes? I feel like it's too much? I don't feel hungry but don't want to be dehydrated. if you read other peoples diets they are confusing.

I feel the same way. Released from Hosp. on Sunday 10/11. I sip water, protein drink, broth, blended soups like split pea, lobster bisque, Roasted Garlic tomato (from Trader Joes). My nutrition packet said clear liquids - water, protein, broths about 2-3 days out. Around Wed. of this week I started "full liquids" which meant "blended" soups - anything smooth - no chunks or pieces - I use a strainer on some of them and my tummy loves it. I first put some on a spoon and dip my tongue in and swallow to test the waters. I use a litle 1 oz. medicine cup to test everything. I don't think its time for shakes yet. But I sure got the heck off of ISOPURE YIKEs!! I've lost 7 lbs. since surgery. I had my post-op appt. with the MD today and went over all of the above. She said it is NOT TIME FOR 3X per day meals now. Eat little ones alternately - water - protein - soup, do all 3 in an hour and you're straight. My post-labs showed a lack of potassium and she prescribed SMART WATER instead of regular which has electrolytes and potassium. and surprisingly liquid yoplait lite, mixed with a little watermelon and crushed ice for the potassium - boy was that a treat and it went down well. In about 2 weeks you can do pureed foods.

It doesn't sound like too much to me, no. What does your doctor's program say you should be eating right now?

Oh...did you say PILLS??? I assume they are being crushed. Pain meds are liquid, vitamins are liquid (Centrum silver liquid) b-12 is either under tongue or liquid, calcium is liquid (when you're ready) blood pressure meds are crushed. The vitamin shoppe carries New Whey protein shots and Target carried Pure protein Whey shots, Trader Joes has 35gm cans of protein that is really thin and easy to consume. I think we have to stay on the thin clear protein for a while. I do the shake during the day and the thin one in the eve. Sorry to be so wordy.

I am able to begin protein shakes next week. Your diet sounds a little easier, but I have next week to look forward to.

The protein drinks keep you from "pissing-away your muscles". Sorry to be so blunt but that's the way the DOC told me. You're going to lose weight no matter what and it's coming from the muscle. Protein as a hunger deterrent is minor at this point, it helps you heal and keeps your muscle mass. Many people try desperately to get as much back as possible due to not enough protein

he said: At this point do not force yourself to drink a whole protein shake at each meal only do what you can take in in 20-30 minutes even if it is just a few ozs, this is usually all sleeve and bypass patients can do in the beginining, about 2 oz. This will increase as the swelling goes away and yo lose more weight. Do this three times a day and sip on water between meals
