today my doc said I can drink propel or water. Since Propel tends to be sweet, I cut it in half with water. The protein shakes does make sense, but at this point I guess another 3 days wont make too much of a difference. My challenge right now is I have 2 degeneritive disks that are causing a tingling sensation in my right leg if I stand or walk for too long.

Looks to me like you're doing great! Don't think about eating or calories or anything like that in the beginning. Just sip sip sip so you don't get sick. Always have some liquid in your hand sipping so you can get in 1.5-2 liters a day. You're doing wonderful!

A bottle of water usually kills any remnants of hunger pangs for me.

I agree. I've had a couple of times now where my stomach just felt really weird and I realized I needed to eat. But the head hunger sucks.

As far as the original post, I think that sounds fine.

When I came home I was able to do full liquids (puddings, milks, protein shakes rather than just clear proteins, etc). I'm 4 weeks out and about to move up to soft foods from purees. Sometimes, the denser stuff makes me feel so sick, and I revert back to yogurt or grab cottage cheese instead. The real key is the small portions. I still can't eat much more than 2 ounces without feeling stuffed. Drinking in more fluid stuff is definitely getting easier now. Now, if I could just sleep...

Winsome... you're eating just fine. All the liquids go through you very quickly, so there's no real chance of stretching yourself out unless you chug-a-lug.

As for your straining soups... give a stick blender a try or a Magic Bullet. Just mash it all together, heat-up and serve. I got tired of Campbells creamy and opted to blend chunky no-fat soups. It was a great taste change... chicken and dumplings was my favorite.

You aren't eating too much. Everyone goes through what you are going through. It sucks! Trying to get your protein and water in is exactly what you should be doing other then walking. I could never drink a whole protein shake in the beginning and sips are all I could take. Keep doing what you're doing and you will be fine. Lisa

goober-you'll find over time that the solid foods are a good "tool". they make you feel fuller faster and uncomfortable-and that is a good thing. yogurts and soft foods are sliders-easy to slide in and through. you'll want to balance both. FWIW...

I've noticed that at the beginning of each stage it's difficult, but it gets easier. I'm still having to get the bulk of my protein from a drink, but that's because I can't finish 2 ounces of meat and a few bites of veggies in 40 minutes. I invariably take too large of a bite of something and then hurt and do the whole "Why did I do this" thing in my head. But I know why, and I just go with it.
