Default Just Had the Lap band

Hello everyone, I have been coming here since around 2006, a little history on myself: I had the gastric bypass surgery back in 06 I lost almost 200 lbs everything was going great, new job back in 08, new self want and self respect, then I started to gain the weight back due to stress and lack of self will (you know the big M word).

I had the band done on 1/19/10 and was suppose to come home wed but due to some problems I stayed there an extra night. I had hiccup real bad and with each one I was spitting up some kind of mucus like liquid with a frosty top (I know nasty), what my doctor did was remove all of the filling that was in the band. It helped but now that I am home I am on liquids and when I tell you everything hurts when I swallow.

I was talking to a friend of mine and she said it may be a sign on gall bladder attacks because thats what she goes through. When I swallow I fell like its stuck no matter how little or slow I do, best way to describe it is as if water is going over rocks in a small tunnel.

I wanted to have this surgery to help maintain my weight, I ran into so many doctors who instead of understanding gave their own thoughts on why I shouldnt or why my weight was coming back. One person understood when I said this weight is a curse and when its in your genes you need tools, support and everything that comes with it to defeat it.

But now I am feeling like why did I do this to myself! I had finally started to be able to eat decent food healthy but i was able to eat. Andnow I feel like I am suffering.... I dont know I feel like I may have made a mistake!

Hang in there...it takes a week or so and then you'll be back to feeling better. You're stoma is swollen from the surgery and probably from the hiccups too (my doc puts NO fill in at surgery as even that is too much for some, I've seen lots of people have to get an unfill just post op). It hurt me too to drink the first few days until the swelling goes down). Keep an eye on it though and if it continues you might need a PPI med (for reflux, I did just post-op and I never had it pre-band). Many get the normal 'burning' with reflux, but some ONLY get the 'globus sensation' (and some like me both) it's a feeling like you've got a lump in your throat and have trouble swallowing. The stitches that are holding your band to your stomach take about 6 weeks to heal so just let your body heal and don't worry about the WL right now. Keep walking and sip, sip, sip! Feel better soon! -BG

Ouch, what a pain? Your surgeon should not have put any filling in at the point of op since you needed some weeks to recuperate get the swelling down. Hopefully you`re feeling better now. Hope you get some comfort with the current wls. Keep us posted, hun.

Hey fellow New Yorker! I'm so sorry you're going through this. I revised the other way - band to bypass. Have you been in contact with your surgeon regarding the pain? I don't understand why he would've put anything in the band right away. And I don't think you should be in that much pain. Are you managing to get in your protein?

I know you're feeling really crappy right now and wondering why the hell you did this to yourself, but it will pass. Once you've overcome this hurdle and things settle down, you'll feel much better about the whole thing. Please let your doctor know. Hang in there!

Yep, this is becoming more common here. In fact, just this week I saw a whole group being formed on OH for BOB's (Band Over Bypass). From reading, it seems like the folks over time had stretched their stoma's and weren't getting any restriction...thus, the need for a band, but I don't know much about it.

Hope you're doing better now willbowski!
