Post-Op weight gain....
I am now about 2 1/2 weeks post op and have gained about 4 pounds in the past couple days. I have no idea why. I had a couple fries over the weekend but maybe only about 5, that does not equal 4 pounds.
I know it is way too early in the process to get frustrated, but at this pace I am going to be bigger that before I started this whole process. And I still have another 3 1/2 weeks before I get my first fill.
My friend suggested that maybe it is my body shutting down since I have not eaten "normally" for a month and half, and is going into "starvation mode".
Anyone with advice or experience please let me know. I am going nuts and want to cry!!
Thanks!
Krystal

Your body can definitely hang onto ALL calories you give it if you are not eating! I know the rules for the lap-band are different then gastric-bypass...but I'd suggest upping your PROTEIN, drinking alot of water...and staying away from bad carbs. Just a suggestion...
Just remember that your band is just a TOOL...you still have to work at losing weight.
Good luck!

Hi,
I had my band in Jan this year and have lost 60lbs.
It didn't start coming off till my first fill which was in March, my nurse said she would be suprised if I did lose before the first fill as your body is healing from the op and you probably still have a lot of fluid, I was going up and down by up to 5lbs for nearly four weeks, and barely eating a thing.
Be patient it will start coming off fast once you had the fill
Good luck
sue

the 4 lbs is most likely fluid. are you expecting your period? have you eaten a lot of salty or processed foods lately. I had a rny and i lost 20 lbs in the first 3 weeks but I went up a couple lbs and down a couple lbs...then up and down and up and down. I probably actually lost 60 in total but kept regaining. Lap band is a slower process so don't get discouraged. Keep working your tool! Sue

Thank You
Thank you all for all your encouragement. I am now at 6.5 weeks post op and doing better. I think I was just gaining a little weight because my body was stock piling food when I started to eat real food again and it was about PMS time too. I have lost the 4 pounds that I gained, but still am stuck. I am not too worried though, I go for my first fill tomorrow so I know that will help.
Thanks again for all your helpful insight!

Hey Krystal, if it makes you feel any better I am haviig the same problem. I am 2 weeks post-op. and appear to be gaining instead of losing. I weigh every day and nothing seems to change. I am so frustrated that I am going crazy and taking everybody at my house with me. What I want to know is when will the scale begin to move in the right direction. I haven't even had my post-op check up yet, and I am afraid to get on their scales.

Gail-
I was stuck until I got my first fill. Now I am slowly going in the right direction. I am not losing as fast as I was before, but that is normal. As long as it is going down I am happy.
Keep chugging away at it, it will get better and the scale will go down.

I ran across a snack that is really good, and you may want to try it. It is a crunchy baked cheese, and it is really good. One of my friends who has diabetes and cannot eat gluten gave me a taste. Helps when you get the munchies.

ok, here comes the btch in me. YOU ARE 2.5 WKS POST OP AND HAVING FRENCH FRIES. This completely blows my mind. To be blunt, how stupid are you? I'm sorry that is incredibly mean, but helllllllllloooooo you just had weight loss surgery because obviously you wanted to take control of your weight, yet you are eating french fries 2 weeks post op. Don't you think thats a catch 22, that you can sit here and whine that you havent lost, yet admit you had french fries 2 wks after deciding to change your life?
This frustrates me to no end, and some ppl may hate me for saying this, but this is what absolutely disgusts me about ppl. They fail so early out.
i realize this was posted 2 months ago.. but i am sorry, people need to see, thissssss is why ins companies are so tough on approving. because of ppl who dont take the surgery seriously afterwards..

Well, it scares me to concur with out little friend above.
Although again putting herself on her own "Im a tough guy " pedestal, she is dead on with her comments, this amazes me when we here this crap, fricken french fries, un believable!! Now I dont know much about lap band, or the tolerance levels, and I am assuming that grease and fats do not have the same effect, but come on....you did say french fries, it goes back to my infamous saying, its a shame the amount of people out there that would give almost anything to have this potentially life saving surgery, and would do what ever it took to be successful at it, and then there are some that have it, and eat french fires two weeks after... OH well...
Good luck on your journey, sounds like your gonna need it.
Harsh, yes, but reality is a real bitch sometimes...
