Since I'm pre-op I'll have to take you word for it! Sounds as if ice-cream doesn't like you as much as you like it. Yikes!! You didn't say your reaction to the ice-cream...but I'm pretty sure an "I'm sorry you responded to it like that" is in order. Take care!

Oh no - ice cream is the devil - you poor thing! Normal ice cream is a complete no no for me but sugar free is no problem at all. I'm off to New Zealand on Friday and can't wait for some sugar free ice cream there - it is better than anywhere else in the world! Mmmmm.

Hope you feel better soon!

jerseygrl684, is it true, is it possible that ice cream is not tolerated on the lap band? Is this a common occurence, I thought ice cream was a "slider" food. How tight does my band have to get before I can't eat ice cream too. I have the 10 cc band and have had it about 7+ months and after the last overfill they left me at 4 ccs and I can still eat ice cream. If I can get to a point where those types of foods won't go down it would be a good thing for sure! Let me know people, I'm running out of answers help!!!!!!brandyII

Default I stay away from ice cream

I stay away from ice cream completely! It is easily tolerated on the band I suppose. Bandsters don't have dumping which is why Bypassers have problems. Ice cream is a BIG reason for my weight gain over the years. Ben and Jerry were my closest friends I just don't even want to go there. I am used to living without it so why mess with a good thing. I don't think even the tightest fill would keep you from being able to eat it. Back away from the scooper..... Good luck! You can do it. As for the bypassers who are having problems, I really don't know what to say. My doctor has that at the top of his no no list for his bypass patients and same for us bandsters just because it is too easy to eat and is such a bad thing. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

Kelly:

Even though I agree it's something we should stay away from, sometimes you just have to have a little something, so, find your limit. Try measuring it with a measuring cup. My limit is less than a 1/4 cup. So maybe try 1/8th cup. I know it's only a taste, but do we really need more than that? Especially if it makes you dump or throw up? I've learned through trial and error what my limits are before it makes me dump. Other things that we shouldn't eat like a cookie from subway. I can eat 1/2 and leave the other half for about 1/2 hour to and hour later, then I can eat it. I would have to caution you though, if you can stay away from the sweets altogether it would be best. Some alternates I do are sugar free pudding. It takes care of that need for chocolate and dosen't make me dump, sugar free jello is another sweet non dumping food that kinda takes the edge off. I have to stay totally away from granola. I still have issues with apples and citrus fruits. Love oranges and tangerines, and grapefruit, but they cause ab. pain and a dash for the bathroom by morning. Oh have you tried dried fruit for a snack? Again, you have to find the limit on that too, it's sometimes hard to realize how much you've eatten because it's dried, so I usually take a little out and put the rest away. I think we get into a snacking mode, like while we're working and don't realize how much we've just consumed. So like I said I usually take a little and then put the rest up. Best of luck.

Sharon

If you absolutely MUST have ice cream, try the 100 calorie ice cream bars at Albertson's grocery store. They are small, but do the trick for satisfying cravings. One every coupla days does just fine. Don't know if they sell similar at other stores; I've not found them if so. Sugar-free Fudge-sicles are also really good.

GOOD LUCK!
