20 questions 1 post LOL
Hi all, Hope you are all doing well. Im 5 days out and starting to feel almost normal. Down 8lbs!.......I have several things going on and rather than research a bunch of threads, Im just gonna put it all out here. Forgive me if this too repetative!
2 week liquid diet......Did you all stick to it? Anyone self advance? On my second day i chewed up a piece of bologna and then spit it out (and cried) sigh......ok if i had willpower i wouldnt have needed this. But GOD at only 2 days! .....................Now Im introducing new foods..soft high protein ones like cottage cheese and soup. I know this is against advice but im STARVING.
Which leads me to...STARVING...I realize there is no restriction yet but, I didnt think I would be this hungry. Were you? What helped?
Swelling even my pre surgery fat clothes" hurt. How long does this last?
Calories How many are you averaging a day? At this point should I even keep track?
pouch cant seem to keep the little thing full. Seriously, I could drink a 16 ounce bottle of water like normal. This doesnt sound right?
Ok I'll stop here. I appreciate any advice or similar experiences. THANKS

Swelling...
When I had my revision done in April, my side was killing me for a long time. I think at least 4 weeks before it wasn't quite so noticable. I think someone told me about 6 weeks for the pain to be totally subsided, and someone else said something like three months to completely heal inside?? I can't remember exactally now. If you have any serious concerns or problems, I would call the doctor's office and speak to the nurse, they can tell you if this is "typical" or if you should come in and be evaluated. Hang in there it will get better. Remember - everyone's different as far as what and how much they can eat or tolerate, so that's a hard one to answer. Good luck and congratulations on your surgery.

Michele,
My swelling lasted for at least the first 5 days. Today is the first day I feel 100% and it's the 8th day. I'm seeing a nutrionist next week so I'll know how may calories to eat in a day.

Hi Michelle,
When they said a liquid diet, I stuck to the liquid diet. sucking the juice off something is still liquid Thing is, you do not want to hurt your new pouchie. concentrate on getting your fluids in, and no, you will not feel full, the hunger you are feeling is not physical hunger, it's head hunger. it is a demon we all face, some of us on a minute by minute basis. The first few weeks, it is imperative that you let your little pouch rest and heal. Welcome, and good luck to you. It is a good idea to call your surgeons office if you have questions. The swelling will go down, get yourself some GasX strips, they help ALOT! Congratulations! You're a loser!

Michelle... congrats on the first 8 pounds... Sounds like you're doing great already! Keep reading here and don't be afraid to ask 20 more questions... this family loves to share their experiences and are helping everyone along the path...
I'm still back in the woods here (pre-op, no insurance submittal yet), but have learned so much! At the surgeon's seminar last week I felt so smart because I knew EVERY answer the "audience" had for the surgeons... I've been studying up!!!
: )
Welcome to Thinner Times! It's an awesome place!

2 weeks out
I am just finishing up the puree diet and moving to soft foods (what exactly is a soft food??). I heard from a lot of people that they are starving until they get there 1st fill. I had my first fill on the operating table (new procedure). the advice I heard was to eat small meals (2-3oz) of yogurt, soup every 3 hours and drink LOTS of water. Don't sip, just drink it. That really helps me not get hungry.
And it is true about the head hunger. I have to remind myself that I am not truely hungry, just used to stuffing my face.
Gas-x is wonderful for the gas. I looked 5 months pregnant for a week. I am still swelled, but not gassy anymore. I heard it takes a month for all the swelling to go away. I am still sore on the belly button. I feel wonderful though and can't wait to go to the gym. Walk a lot too, it moves the gas. I couldn't burp for a week. It would get stuck below the band and hurt. Now I can and that helps.
I am down 15 pounds already!! Woo hoo!

also..
I did push the envelope to get to yogurt and soup. As long as you don't feel like puking or get pain, you are fine to start. I have kind of moved up all my different phazes by a few days and I have been fine, but it is up to your body.

CollyLo, soft foods is pretty much just what it sounds like. Anything soft. Not hard or crunchy. Did your doctor or dietician give you a list of foods? In addition to all the stuff you've been eating on the puree diet, you can eat soft meats like lunch meat or cooked chicken (well, of course you'd cook it, right? That sounded sort of stupid) or ground beef. You can eat cheese. You can eat eggs. You can eat cooked vegetables and canned fruit. You can eat beans.

LOL Yes, once you're on soft foods instead of puree, you get to chew. It's fun. Just make sure you chew really well. Stuff may hurt going down if you don't chew it well enough.
