Tired... Mostly I think you'll feel tired.

I was so tired that I really did not even notice the pain very much. I had open RNY and they had me walking within two hours of surgery. I walked several times that night. The more you walk, the better you will feel. If the nurses don't ask you if you want to walk, ask them to take you.

The first day is kind of a blur. Don't be afraid to push the morphine pump button if you get one.

Think positive thoughts.

Well, I am on day 4 post-op now. I wanted to thank everyone for their responses. It was interesting to see the wide variety of experiences and I had hoped mine would be on the lower pain side. Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky ones. Not only did I wake with intense pain that I can only describe as comperable to a donkey kick to the chest, I had a really bad reaction to the anestesia and had overwhelming nausea and dizziness. After four shots of morphine, antinausea meds and 12 hours of sleep, I was finally able to walk unassisted. I hope no one else ever feels this way after surgery.
