I am spotting as well on BC pills. I am abstinate at this point so that is not a major concern at this point. My sister was on the patch and she was kinda psychotic and had to stop. We both were on Depo and gained quite a bit of weight.

I've been on depo for just over two years now, and honestly, I'm one of the few that love it. It's hard to say if I experienced any weight gain because, pre-GB, I was always gaining weight. However, I haven't had to deal with any of the emotional side effects that so many others have experienced.

My concern is that I've been on depo for two years now, and my GYN doesn't like to keep people on it for much longer than that (due to loss in bone density). I was thinking of going back to the pill, but this thread is definitely make me rethink that.

Bah. I love depo. I don't want to go off.

I love Depo as well. I have been on it for about 5 years adn have had no adverse reactions. My GP and my gyno will only let me use Depo now because of absorption. I was told to take extra calcium to help counteract the bone density issues and to get a density scan yearly.

Thumbs up

I was on the Nuva Ring for a year and then I was getting horrible recurrent Yeast infections because I went on an antibiotic and I needed to go off of the ring while I was on it. My body was in a complete in balance with the 2. So they put me on the pill and I was bleeding the entire time with in a week of being on it. I used it for 2 1/2 months before I couldnt take it anymore and they put me back on the ring....SO FAR so good. I love the ring but if I have to take an antibiotic I have to take it out!

The hormone impregnated IUDs are one of the easiest and predictably absorbed form of birth control. I personally wouldn't do it if I thought I wanted any more kids as I would be concerned about scars in the uterus and fertility after. But if you are done, maybe talk it over with your OB-GYN.

I had the Depo' injection just before my surgery as I did not want anything jeapordising it; even pregnancy. (We may try to conceive again when I have lost all my excess weight). I'm still having it every 12 weeks & except for a couple of weeks of spotting a month after surgery (probably the initial large oestrogen surge from the fat cells I was told) I've had no menstruation or PMT for five months, which I personally love.
I've been loosing an average of 4lb a week which I'm thrilled with, maybe I would have lost more without Depo' but heck it's good enough for me . I do Bodypump three times a week to combat the issues regarding loss of bone density (also helps fight flabby skin I believe, as I have none so far) & I take extra calcium.
"Each to their own" I say but I'm just posting so you know that at least one woman is extremly happy with having Depo' - so far .

Just an update... I got the shot and the spotting stopped and I am doing great, as to the gaining weight part, there are those they say they did. I am not any more hungry than usual and I am eating the same I have lost like 15 pounds this month so I am no longer worried about that aspect of the shot.

The thing with gaining weight you STILL only gain if YOU EAT TOO MUCH. The shot itself doesnt make you gain. So I am watching for signs of wanting to graze and staying on top of it.

I feel safer in being protected, as I had said earlier I dont think I was absorbing enough of it.

I have been on depo provera for years. My only issue with it is that research shows that it can take up to 18 months for the hormones to purge from your body. So if you are trying to get pregnant, your body may inadvertantly keep you from doing so.

I had my last depo shot in January, and we haven't used anything since then. I am a little worried, 1) because I don't want to get pregnant, just yet but 2) don't want to be 36 and still trying either. (turn 33 this week = )

so we are BC method au natural. Whatever happens, happens. Que Sera, Sera, hakuna matata etc!

Though, it does make me wonder why it hasn't happened yet! = P

I am IN LOVE with the Nuva Ring; absolutely no problems and my GYN said it was the best option post surgery. Just one happy customer's opinion!

I just sent my gynocologist an email asking her about starting Depo Vera. I've been spotting for so long now it's starting to depress me! It's been over a month now on Seasonale!! I'm SO DONE WITH IT!
