Hard to eat an egg
Hi, I just had surgery on 6/8/06 and so far, recovering fairly well from the surgery. I just have some questions on the amount of food to intake for this first week after surgery.
My doctor wants me to eat 1 hardboiled egg per day but I am having a hard time doing this. I take 2 maybe 3 very small bites and it feels like it is laying in the back of my throat. Is this normal?
I am trying to get my liquids in also but it is very difficult to do. Any one have any type of diet they followed the first week or amounts they would intake in a day. I am new to this all so I may not even be asking the right questions.

Hi Shari~
I am 15 months out and still can't eat a whole egg.I like the whites but the whole thing sits like a rock.
I would say it's kinda early for an egg a day but maybe scramble it and eat it realllllll slow.
Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

I am surprised at the fact your surgeon wants you to not only eat and egg this early out but a whole egg. Maybe you can try chopping up the egg reall good before eating. Don't feel bad about not getting in all your fluids it is a hard task to accomplish the first couple of weeks out. Just sip as much as you can through out the day. Do you eat popiscles they will help with some of your fluid intake. In time you will form your routine.

My first meal was at 14 days and it was half a soft boiled egg. A hard boiled egg is difficult and dry. Maybe ask if you can do poached or lightly scrambled and it will be much more moist and easy to get down. At less than a week out, I can't imaging eating hardboiled egg.

Wow, I am surprised your surgeon is asking you to eat a whole egg. I am 3 months out and am just now able to tolerate egg and I can still barely eat a whole poached one.

I'd go for poached or soft scrambled instead of hard boiled... just easier to digest. I'm sure it's just for protein he's pushing it. It might be too early for you. Don't force yourself to eat anything. You don't want to push things and end up with some kind of complication. Everyone's pouch is different, listen to it.

Eggs, especially the yolk are hard to get down for me too. I've given up on them for now. I'm shocked your doc wants you to eat one per day also. That's really pushing it.
