I too find that request a little odd. My first 7 days was jello, broth and water. On the 8th day I was told to eat as much of an egg as I could. Had to be scrambled and very moist. I don't think I could have done a whole hard boiled egg. Wow.

Shari:
As you can see, surgeons all have differing requirements and ideas about this surgery. However, one thing is clear - we all tolerate things differently at different times. An egg might work for one person, but another may not tolerate it for a year - everyone handles this surgery in a unique way - and our little pouchies get rather grouchy. Maybe you should call the doctor and tell him/her that you're having problems tolerating the egg - is there another protein source he can recommend????

Default Spoke with Dr

I spoke with the dietician today and she said to maybe try some other source of protein like small curd low fat cottage cheese or lowfat yogurt. She said to wait a few weeks and try the egg again.

Thanks for all of your help and responses.

I'm surprised your surgeon wants you to eat a whole egg. My surgeon likes to say that his patients' pouches are only the size of a small egg. I can't imagine keeping a whole egg down yet, and I'm seven weeks out. I can manage at most two teaspoons of scrambled egg.

I am trying to get my liquids in also but it is very difficult to do. Any one have any type of diet they followed the first week or amounts they would intake in a day. I am new to this all so I may not even be asking the right questions.

My Surgery was 6/5/06 just a few days prior to yours, and I am not even thinking about foods like that yet. I JUST started a full liquid diet..there is no possible way I could eat an egg. Is he asking you to do this for the protein? If so, I would go for the drinks vs. trying to swallow egg on such a new pouch. Man...that's just rough...I had a hard time with coco wheats this morning...I couldn't imagine trying to choke down an egg... Best of luck!

One week out and they want you to eat a whole egg...wow...there was NO WAY that I could eat a whole egg until about 2-3 months out. Now in my 5th month, I can have a whole egg or 2 egg whites along with something else small. Eggs are not normally one of the first things to eat after surgery. Some of my first foods were thinned out yogurt, pudding, applesauce, cream soup, popsicles, thinned out porge ect.

Take it real easy this early out......concentrate on liquids and eat very small amounts of food. Your focus right now is healing and keeping hydrated....anything else is bonus.

Hi I was just reading your question about the hard boiled egg... and so soon after surgery. My doctor specified ONLY 1 egg white (scrambled lightly in the non-fat butter spray) and that is only after the 2nd week after liqueds. good luck . denise
