the good, the bad and the ugly...
So here it goes... i am 4 1/2 months out, and here is the latest progress:
The good: There is so much good, it hard to pick. but i had a HUGE moment on friday that i wanted to share with you all. I, miryam, a former card carying life member of the couch potato club....ran a mile. this may not seem like a big deal to you runners out there, but i have never in my life ran more than a minute at a time (and then only if there was Oxygen on standby). anyhow, i ran it, and i feel wonderful, and i know that this surgery is the best thing i could have done for myself.
the bad: ok, i know that the doctor said this was going to happen, and you all mentioned it, but i am freaked out because i have hit the dreaded plateau. it gets worse, first i gained 3 lbs (which really could, for the first time in my life, be muscle! since i've been working out with a trainer and lifitng weights) but it still is the first time i saw the scale go up. and now its just sitting there, taunting me at 199. Ok, i'm remaining calm, eating right, but secretly freaking out that this surgery will stop working for me. I know... i know.... but i can't help it.
the ugly: apron and bat wings...... need i say more?
thanks for letting me share

You ran a mile!! OMG im So Jealous!!!! I cant wait to run
And about the plateau... you knew it was going to happen... you know it will end so dont freak ... and on the upside atleast it happened at 199 instead of 201! Could you imagine sitting within a couple pounds of onederland for that long? Hehe
Boost Protien and keep excercising!
Youre doing awsome btw

I would love to run, but I think I would end up with two black eyes. Good for you. The plateau will end and I have gained up to 2 pounds and within the week lost them. Check your sodium intake and if you are doing everything right then f^&*( the scale. I would love to run, but have never been a runner. I am afraid of what I would look like. Congrats and save me a place in onederland. I am moving there soon.

One mile sounds like a BIG deal to me too! I'm the one that chuckled at the fitness center when she said the limit for a machine was 30 minutes......lmao.....like I'd accidentally use it too long! I think that is a huge accomplishment! About the plateau......yep, probably muscle. The good news is two fold, one is that you are losing fat and sizes, the second is that you are revving the metabolism. Along with checking sodium....make sure you are eating enough.......some people drop too low and the body panics. So, I know your automatic response is to restrict more, but maybe you need to add some more healthy fat or foods. You are kicking booty girl! The scale doesn't show the whole pic and it WILL shake loose for you. I'm proud of you.

Exercise.. the key
Don't stop at one mile..
Think about what you have done. Then think about the possibilities you have created for yourself.
Yes for you.. Take that feeling of accomplishment and let it multiply into a skinny better you.
As for the three pounds... take it as a sign your body needs more.
Turn those feelings into opportunities to become physically fit.
Imagine running five miles, consistantly.
Take those feelings at the end of a mile times five.
Here's a high five to you,
Jenni

This is one of the reasons i love this forum, you are all so encouraging!
rebeca- if your name Wanttorun means what i think it does... join the club!! and you are right about the 200s, God is good, i would have been crushed to be stuck there.
Dyann- don't worry about how you look, it is the way we are. I had to face the fact that i was clearly the fat girl in the gym (is it just in NY or do only skinny people work out at your gyms?) and i no longer worry about it. You are fabulous... so own it. oh, and we have a spot in onederland waiting for you. come on down!
Marti- i am so inspired by your progress, that i think i will try your advice!!
Dorothy- as for plastic surgery, i would have it, if i can get insurance to pay for it...otherwise i'm gonna wait a long while. Still paying off a masters degree (come to think of it, still paying off a BA!)
Jenni- thanks for the words, i am working on it.

First off, you are just so darn cute.
Your comment about the gym reminded me of something. Now, at the fitness center I am planning to join that is not the case, it is mostly elderly folks so far. But one day not too long ago I went shopping. I went into one of those stores I would guess is meant for YOUNG girlies. I just stared at the clothes on the table. The girl asked could she help me.....I said, ummmm, I need something wider than this and held up my fingers about 3 inches apart. She kind of smiled and didn't say anything. I could NOT believe those clothes! Before surgery I would have just acted like I was shopping for someone else, but now that I am a relatively "normal" size, it did not embarrass me to fall under their ridiculous notion of perfection.
Lastly, from your response I would definitely encourage you to take my advice. Boosting calories in a healthy way can keep your body guessing and not be so worried whether food will be coming. It also keeps your metabolism up so you are able to eat relatively normal and not gain like we used to after our yo-yo diets. I think sometimes in the losing phase we are so excited and the limiting is easier that it is tempting to roll with that. I've heard a lot of people brag about how they barely eat, then in the next breath how hard it is too lose now. Eat girl.....just follow the rules. You are doing awesome!
