I am not really expecting a certain amount because I dont want to feel I have to live up to that expectation right now and just let my body do its own thing and what I lose, I lose. Is this a smart way to go about it? I would like to have a goal of 40 lbs lost my first month, but again I have no idea if that is realistic or if it isn't. What do you all think? I am just happy to know that it will come off and if it is not fast.. NO PROBLEM!! If it does.. WHAT A PERK!! HAHA.. Talk soon!

I scrolled down and you have gotten a lot of good responses. I agree that you have to look at percentages, especially when you have less to lose. I had roughly 100 to lose, so for me to drop 40-50 in a month would be ridiculous and unhealthy. I think the important thing is to follow the rules as best you can......including getting your protein and enough calories so as not to slow metabolism too badly. If you follow the guidelines and work towards good health it will shake off. I lost 24 and 20 my first 2 months, and have never had bigger than 9 lbs a month since. However, I feel good, I am healthy, and it has totalled 86 lbs now! I only used comparison to try and evaluate if I was following the rules closely enough (most of us do splurge in moderation, but don't have a lot of experience successfully managing that concept). And I agree that any loss is good!!! Also remember that time of the month, hydration, salt intake, exercise, time of day, etc will all affect the scale. Don't forget to use clothes and body measurements to determine progress. There were times I barely lost and was dropping sizes, probably due to exercise and muscle gain.
