For each surgeon/hospital it's different. Mine won't do any additional blood tests or other tests. It's mostly just meeting with team, getting preped and then surgery. They won't put any tubes down your throat while you are awake and aware. You will be out, don't worry. They cathadir is done then too...so no worries my friend...you won't know a thing! I answer this because my nurse went over the whole check in thing with me from the moment I get there until they send me home. I feel much better knowing what to expect. You should call your office and have them tell you the 'walk-through" for the day of surgery...it really helped me put my mind at ease!!!
Either way, you will do GREAT!! Good Luck to you on Tuesday!!

I got there, checked in and waited til they called me. Then they weighed me and had me change into a gown (no more tests or giving blood). Then they asked me a few more final questions before they wheeled me (with hubby) in the the holding area. One of the op nurses came in to verify who I was ( you will be asked your birthdate ALOT), and that I was there to have an open RNY, and then the anesteseologist came in to verify that I wasn't alergic to meds and to go over what his job was going to be. Then she wheeled me ito the op room. I sat in the edge of the op table and talked to the nurse while the anest, came me a shot that made me almost immediately woozy, so the nurse sort of held me up and talked to me while the anest. put in the epi. He wasn't quite finished...then I woke up in recovery. Them was some GOOOOOOOd drugs

I think the only test that I will have is I have to pee in a freakin cup again.. I asked them why and they said they just wanted to make sure that I didnt get pregnant from last week until surgery day .. sigh ... I SO do not see that happening... but I think that is the only thing I have to do.
Good luck !

am 11 days out.no tests on op day.in fact i did not even know when i went out for the anesthe was talking to me in the holding room and the next thing i knew i was being tugged into a bed in my room.clearly i slept thru the whole recovery period and all.in fact i did not wake up all that night either not till late the next day as much as they tried to rouse me. i simply did not even have the energy to stand as they said i needed to walk but my legs just crumpled and they put me back to bed.4 of us were op on the same day all other 3 went home the very next day.so things do not always turn out the way you plan.most go smoothly i hear.
psho65@yahoo.com
not to scare u though-just prepare 4 anything and if u have a good dr. things will be fine.i just got pneumonia and an infection is all.i will continue to recover.little thibgs like that will not keep me down!!

Wow, exciting....your day is almost here. My experience was similar to what Whitney said. Mine did not even weigh me.......and no pee in the cup because of a hysterectomy or I would have had to. Nothing painful was done prior as Whit said. But along with your birthdate, they also asked my name A LOT too. You will do great. Nothing right before surgery compares to all you've already been through. It's actually kind of uneventful, other than nerves.

Hi, I'm near PHilly
The day I went in for surgery wasn't bad except for the fact that they said it had been cancelled ! After it got straightened out ( went home and called the doctors office since no one was there when I stopped by ) No one knew who would have called and cancelled. ( at first I thought it was a sign from above) but when I got back to the hospital they asked me my name , why I was there, address, SS#, Doctors name. Then had me change into that beautiful gown and started my IV. Nurses, anestesia people came in asked questions, allergic to anything, asked me if I had anything since midnight if I had any questions then wheeled me down to the O.R. Before being taken in my wrist band was checked , I was again asked my name, birthdate, SS# , who my dr. was , what I was there for., Alleriges ? any med taken, HAVE YOU HAD ANYTHING TO EAT SINCE MIDNIGHT ? Surgeon came over asked if I was ready and they took me in. Next thing I know I am in the recovery room with the nurse asking my name to wake me up. Then I was taken to my room.

I get one extra
I skip the bowel prep but after they put me under, I get an...EDP? ENP? EN?? Anyway, he puts a camera down my throat to check out my "linings" and the inside of my stomach - wants to be sure there are no suprises.
I am still nervous about this epidural, but Whitney, you sound like you didn't even know it was happening...

For me, I first went to the waiting room, signed a couple forms and waited to be called. Once my name was called I was weighed and brought to a room to change into a gown. They asked some questions, took my blood pressure. I also had to pee in a cup to make sure I wasn't pregnant. I got a Lovenox shot and got plexi pulses put on my feet. (To help prevent blood clots.) I was then brought to the OR holding room. The doctor and anest came and talked to me. A nurse put an IV in me and before I knew it they were wheeling me into the surgery room. They got me settled on the table, put a mask on my face and that's the last thing I remembered until I woke up in the recovery room having the nurses yelling at me to lay back down. *hehehe* I never found out what I was doing, probably trying to do the nurse's job.
