Hello everyone, I will be having my surgery on June 6 and I wanted to know?
1. After surgery do you still have the sensation of feeling hungry???
2. How bad is the pain (lyproscopic)???
3.Has anyone experienced childbirth after surgery???
4.What should I expect the first couple of days home after surgery??
Thanks....

1. Yes.I left hospital dec 24 and there's a dinner party in my house. Just figure how much food i missed that night
2. Pain is ok but i have also a hernia repair and that is more painful than my surgery for gastric.
3. I planned this whole thing. I have 2 kids already and had ligation after my 2nd kid and waited couple years for the insurance to get approved then got this surgery LOL
4. First couple of days.... hmmm mine is pretty nasty. It is my 2nd day of menstruation and it is really "heavy" then add to that i had constipation - sorry for being too graphic but this is reality. It is hard during the first month. My doctor placed me on a liquid diet. When i saw the fats melting then i become more motivated to loose and started walking during my break time and lunch time at work.

1. In the beginning no, and any sense of "hunger" is in your head making you want to munch. It isn't real
2. On a scale of 1-10. The day after surgery is about a 7 and quickly goes down to a 1 over the next few days
3. I haven't, buy my friend has and there are a few on the board. Our MD makes you sign a contract that you won't get pregnant for 18 months post op as it is difficult to take in enough to support you and the baby as well as allowing everything to heal.
4. The first few days home it would be nice to have someone around to help you and encourage you. Be as active as possible. I had tons of energy and was out shopping on post op day 3, but every day I needed a nap. You walk, sip and sleep. If you have kids....get help for the kids so you can concentrate on you.

1. Honestly, I sometimes have to force myself to eat. I've gone several days with eating only 1 meal(my doctor said only eat when you are hungry, so...).
2. With my laproscopic surgery, my pain was ok if I was upright, but when I was laying down, the staples pulled at me and it was horrible. I had an almost impossible time sleeping. Once the staples were out I felt FANTASTIC.
3. I've seen several posts about people being pregnant but none so far have gone to term. Browse around and use the search feature. But as a second, my doctor always said in his seminars that if you were having the bypass surgery you should NOT get pregnant for the first 18 months. Otherwise serious complications could ensue.
4. My first couple days were spent craving foods I couldn't have, shaking off the drugs, and hobbling around. It's pretty bad but it gets better really fast.
Good luck and welcome to your new life!

1. Not for a few months. I dreaded meal times early out and didn't want anything. After about 2-3 months I started kind of feeling hunger, but wasn't always sure. Now I certainly do.
2. I felt like a truck hit me on day one, fairly out of it day two, went home and was feeling much better day three, visited friends day 4, started driving day 5, ready to go to Karaoke day 6. It was like everyday was a week.
3. Nope, sorry on that one.
4. You'll be tired and sore, but able to get around and get your own popsicles and drinks and such. I was up to watching videos and visiting friends. I did nap on and off. The rest of the time I spent dreading the next supplement or drink.

2.I had Lap and the pain was better than my C section. They kept me well drugged...if there was pain I didn't mind
3.None planned here but others are and plan to after WLS.My Dr.says to wait two years.
4.Rest,rest,sleep,walk and sip all day long.

1 = For the first month, I never had hunger, then it came back normally. My doc told me it is normal.
2- No pain at all in my case!
3= No I have not, and I hope I will never experience it ! (I am MALE! ) But reports show that pregnancy after surgery is perfectly normal. Of course, there should be a waiting time, doc suggest 1 year, also, you should check for your nutrition while pregnant, remember you will malabsorb!
4= You should expect a normal life with changes in your habits. You have to wire this into your brain forever, and you know what.. it is VERY EASY !! once you see the results, you start changing your habits automatically.. BUT your milage will vary... STAY HAPPY !
GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!

Hi Blessed,
Welcome, glad you found us. You might want to join the June Bugs Club, if you haven't already. To answer your questions from the perspective of 4 weeks out:
1. Yes, but most of it is head hunger. You think you want to eat, but you're satisfied after a couple spoonfuls.
2. I had no pain with lap. I stopped taking pain meds on the second day after my surgery and haven't had a single twinge since. I'm a big baby when it comes to pain - just ask my dentist - so it's not like I'm trying to put a brave face on things. I honestly had no pain.
3. Sorry, can't answer this one - had the kid 18 years ago.
4. I slept most of the the first two days at home. It was nice. I had no pain or nausea, just felt pleasantly drowsy.

1. I am 6 months out and still don't feel hungry.
2. I had moderate pain with lap the first week or so. Each day I could see a big improvement. It wasn't nearly as bad as my C-section.
3. I would like to have one more baby but too soon do try now.
4. I slept a lot and spent the first few days watching the clock to sip and eat and walk. It was a rough couple of weeks after surgery but got better each day.
