Default Beef jerkey, and swollen feet... ???

I THINK I've noticed a correlation now between my eating beef jerkey, and the swelling in my feet!! (This is NOT a happy thing for me to have noticed...)

I had written on someone else's thread about my feet ... and they had gotten better. (I had run out of beef jerkey, too). I got more jerkey in the mail yesterday, ate some while out doing errands, and by last night, noticed my feet doing the "swell thang" again!!!!!!!!!

I looked at the package, and it seems that there's a lot of sodium ... maybe if I DRINK more, I can keep eating my jerkey??? Tell me I'm making this connection UP, and that jerkey really ISN'T a problem for me!!! ??? !!!

(I love jerkey now.......well, I did...........aaargh!!!)

Sorry, I think it is the jerky! Try the drinking a lot of water thing and see if that works. Good Luck!

It does have a great deal of sodium, but how much are you eating?? One serving usually has about 400 grams. You should be able to eat that without retaining that much water. Are you getting sodium in other places as well that you can cut out and save the jerkey? Does the brand you eat have an unusually high content??? I too love jerkey and like wither bridgeford original or obierto teryiaki.

Frigo reduced fat String cheese is a lower sodium good alternative or BBQ soy crisps by geni-soy

It is the jerky. I spoke to my nutritionist about it and she does not recommend jerky at all because of the high sodium content.

I love beek jerkey and especially love that we get 14 grams of protein for 1 ounce. B/c of the sodium, though, I might have it once a week if that....

I really never THOUGHT of the sodium content ... just went merrily along, because of the low calories and high protein.

I'm VERY sensitive in that my feet swell at just about ANYTHING ... it used to be that ibuprofen sent me into fits of edema.

Alas, I think I will need to back off the jerkey ... I'd been eating at least an ounce a day, sometimes more. I don't eat a lot of "food" ... so the jerkey was kind of a "staple" for me.

I need to rethink my program now. I am just amazed at this realization. (Guess I'm a little slow on the uptake, eh?)

I don't really use salt on anything else, and watch the sodium content in everything I eat (except the jerky! LOL).

I guess I'll go get a string cheese for my snack.

I feel for you. Jerky is a staple for me too.I eat about 4 ounces a day and don't know what i would do without it. Lucky it doesn't affect me. Barb

Cottage Cheese (the "On the Go" type) have 11 grams per little container - you could put either cinnamon on it to make it sweet, or you can put a teenie bit of lawry's seasoning salt on it to make is flavorful (I stress a teenie amount because of your sodium issue). Cottage Cheese can be flavored so many ways!

String Cheese has 7 grams for 1 stick. Yogurt varies, but also makes a very good snack. Stallone Pudding is super good and has 20 grams for 1 can - I use it as my 3PM munchie treat. These are all just ideas to use in lieu of the beef jerky, which you can also still have in moderation.

I eat beef jerky everyday! I love the stuff. In fact I am eating it right now. I drink a lot of water and coffee and have no prob with water retention. If you really love it, eat it. There are not many things out there that we can eat, that is good for us and we really want it. Just drink lots of water and you should be fine!

FYI: we all know how much beef jerky costs, I just wanted to let you know I found a great deal at Ralphs. It is only $5.99 for 10 oz (store brand). It tastes better than most brands and I love it. 59 cents an oz is the best deal I could find. It is even better than walmart!

Thanks, everyone. I do have cottage cheese, and string cheese, but am pretty sick of most everything. I guess that's an "ok" place to be right now... I know all phases of this journey are just that... phases.

I appreciate all the input, and the time everyone took to respond to my "plight". I don't feel so all alone, AND I think it might help someone else, if they don't have to learn the "hard way" that they could have a reaction to jerkey.

Well, I have errands to run, better get awayyyyyyyyyyy from the computer.

Have a great day, all !!!!
