Carvel Ice Cream - IS THIS A TEST?
Well, I'm about 8 weeks out, and I've been holding my own, checking back here every day for tips, moral support and cyberfriendship. Each day holds a new challenge, but I get through them.
I almost cried the other day - my DH and I were driving home through Carlsbad, and we noticed that in a new shopping center, there's a Carvel Ice Cream. You native Californians might not know of Carvel, but if you're from back east, you grew up on Carvel. Carvel was the treat du jour at my house - we went there all the time. I'm sure that 80% of the weight on my thighs is from Carvel brown bonnets.
I just kept yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" "this can't be happening"......a freaking Carvel Ice Cream 2 miles from my house.
This is a test - I know it is. God is testing my resistance. This is SO wrong. I've gone through all this pain and Diet Pepsi withdrawal to blow this....but stand thee behind me Satan and DON'T PUSH!

I can't tolerate ice cream now post -op but I LOVE Carvel also.Untill I left home, every birthday I had a Cravel icecream cake.I love the crunchy bottom.
Here comes a flame or two......but IMO...I believe in portion and moderation...one day I will try some Cravel again and it will probably not taste the way I remember it.
Wow,you brought back great memories!!!!!
They have Cravel's in Va and NC.

Carolyn I felt the same way about ColdStone. It hurts my feeling at first because they built one a couple of blocks away from my house as well. I just always focused on my big day and joining the losing side the right way. Til this day I still haven't been there, I am so use to not going any more it doesn't bother me anymore. Two more days girlfriend.

No flames girl...you might melt the ice cream!
I make my own ice cream or ice milk when I get a wild hair and sometimes I get a small pint of Godiva's. I can do 3-4 spoonfuls and that's about all I can tolerate.

I love the cookie crunchy stuff from Carvel! They rock! I have a Coldstone down the street from me. It's been there a year. I never set foot in it. I knew it would be a bad move. lol I had surgery on my mind. I do however miss Friendly's ice cream (A New England thing.)

Carvel cake is tradition here for Birthdays. My Fathers birthday I made my own version.
Take a spring form pan and layer bottom with crushed either reduced fat oreo or favorite low sugar cookie.
Soften two pints of sugar free ice cream. Layer ice cream, more cookie crumble and ice cream. top with FF cool whip and put in freezer overnight.
They loved it. I still didn't even have a spoonful, but what they had was much more healthy.

I am from back East and remember Carvel and Friendly's fondly. I did not know they had one in California. I have had a little bit of ice cream with no problem since surgery and it hasn't made me a terrible person.

How dare they! I was like that about Coldstone Creamery too. I had discovered it this past fall and ate it at least once a week. Well, last week I had me first real test, my mother and sister wanted it and I was out with them so I went with. Not one thing tempted me in there and I must admit watching them eat that much and the sweet smell made me a little nauseous. Who knew? I was more peeved that they made a big deal about how I could not have it and are you sure you don't want a bite. I hate that!

I'm glad it just isn't me - Coldstone, Carvel - it's all the work of the DEVIL!
I've tried the Carb Control SF Dreyers ice cream (Eddy's on the "other" coast). Even with a teenie bit, it makes my heart race, so I'm thinking I'm not gonna even DRIVE into that parking lot with the new Carvel.
OT: I'm kinda proud of myself - we went to the mall on Wednesday to get See's Candy for Mother's Day (for my MIL). They give away free samples to everyone who buys something - and the lady automatically handed me a sample. I handed mine directly to the DH - didn't even have it in my hand for a second. I could have eaten it, it would have made me deathly ill - I would probably STILL be in the JCPenney ladies room .
So, I guess it's just the decision process? Do I want it and be ill, or do I just bypass it entirely. I hope I can be this realistic months from now, though......

You hang in there, Carolyn! Just think of those sweets as fried frog legs dipped in apple butter.
And in honor of YOU, I will NOT go into Coldstone this weekend and talk myself into a treat because it's Mother's Day and my only daughter is 3,000 miles away in Spain...waaaaah.
