Default My surgeon's recommendations for hair loss

Well I am just over 3 months out and yep, the hair loss has started. It hasn't been too bad yet but I am noticing more hair in my hands when I wash my hair. I got some information from my surgeon regarding supplements to hopefully slow down the hair loss so I thought I would pass it on. I can't swear by these because I haven't started all of them but hopefully this info may help me and others:

" Due to the changing levels of protein and vitamin levels that occur during the weight loss surgery process, some patients may notice thinning or loss of hair.
This is usually a temporary condition which improves after the active weight loss period is complete or approximately 12 to 18 months after surgery.
It is important to be sure you are getting the recommended amount of protein and vitamins daily. The following combination, in addition to your daily multivitamins, has been recommended to help slow the rate of hair loss:

Zinc chelate: 15 mg daily
Copper chelate: 1 mg daily
Silica: 20 mg daily
Vitamin C: 2,000 mg daily
Flaxseed oil: 5,000 mg (1 tbsp) daily
Vitamin A: 5,000 IU daily

Supplements should only be taken for 30 consecutive days."

He did tell me that the Flaxseed Oil is the most important so at this stage that is what I have added until I can purchase the rest of the supplements. I'm not sure why for only 30 days. I'll have to e-mail the PA and ask him if the hair loss gets worse after the 30 days if I can do more than one 30 day cycle.

Again, I don't know if this will really help, but I trust the knowledge of my surgeon's office and this was their recommendation.

Beth,
Please do keep us updated on whether or not the 30 days can be done more than once throughout the next 12-18 months, Thanx!

Tawnia, I e-mailed the nutritionist and this is what she had to say.

Quote:
If it doesn't improve after 30 days, you
can continue to try and take them if you wish. Also, you should not take
the Vitamin A for more than 30 days to ensure that you don't get
Vitamin A toxicity.
So, I guess its okay except for the Vitamin A.

Just thought I would update all of you on my results since I started this regima.

I've been on the Flaxseed for like 2-3 weeks and all of the other vitamins for 1-2 weeks. I was noticing a fair amount of hair loss in the shower until yesterday it seemed to be decreasing. Today, I didn't really have much to speak of at all. Hope this keeps up and it doesn't get any worse.

Anyway, at this point this seems to be working for me!
