chellchatting -
Most if not all of my dietery constraints are derived directly from a handbook my surgeon's office has provided. Part of the "package deal" is a dietician who assembled the entire stepped dietary plan. I'm now on "Step 1 Clear Bariatric Liquids" as opposed to Step 0 Water & Propel only.
Yes, propel is a "Fitness Water" made by Gatoraide. It is recommended and was actually brought to me while in the hospital.
If you are going to use Dr. Callery, you will have the same dietician as I have. Dr. Mueller was my surgeon, and I beleive they share a lot of the same resources. Give a call down to Juna J. at the bariatric surgeon's office (you should have her number) and ask to see if you can get a copy of the binder they give out during the "pre-op class". This is where the menus, diet information, and all sorts of other stuff is handed out. You may want to call sooner than later, because as I understand it, the dietician is a US Navy Reservist and will be on Active status during the month of July.
With regards to the broth - trust me, I didn't care for the whole idea of broth before this either. Your tastes will definiately change. I still like the idea of a nice garlic bagel w/ creame cheese, but I have a good imagination.
After a few gulps of water, and I walk down the hall, talking to my dog (hey you guys do it to) and I say "I just had a nice big bagel with creme cheese, don't you smell the garlic?". Your little pouch doesn't know the difference and is telling you that you're full, and I mean FULL. It is a good way to "eat" all of the food you want without having to actually acknowledge you are going without it. Mind over matter.
Definitely try to get in touch with Dr. Callery's office/Juna to get the diet information ahead of time. If for whatever reason you can't, PM me and I will scan & email the section to you; its about 6 or 8 pages.
