I Was a Virigin...Until Tonight
A vomit virgin that is. I had surgery 9 weeks ago today and had not vomited until tonight. I have to say for someone who's MAJOR PHOBIA is vomiting, it wasn't as bad as I had pictured. I am so phobic of vomiting that I have been able to "will" away the vomit feeling for the past 10 years!! Well, tonight I ate chicken to fast...I have done this a bunch of times and I usually have MAJOR pain smack dab in the middle of my chest...but tonight I couldn't "will" it away...I have lost my powers!!

Wow, I never knew anyone else could do that! I went once for 20 years......age 12 to 32......I kid you not. I can count on one hand the number of times I vomited in adulthood prior to the birth of my pouch. But honestly, it just isn't as bad as it used to be. It doesn't have that nasty acid stuff anymore (slime is waaaaaay better ). I have learned now that if I am pretty sure it needs to come up, I just encourage it...not in a bulimic kind of way. Actually when I do that, once in awhile it ends up not coming up.......so I know it only comes if it was going to anyhow. But a few times I tried my old powers and I stayed in pain, then when it FINALLY came up anyhow, it was very painful in that process.....sharp burning pains throughout my body. UGH

Hey Marty,
I spoke waaayyyy to soon. Not 2 minutes after posting I got the chest pains again and vomited 3 more times. 3 more not so nice times. The tears started up just like when I was a kid! But after it was over I felt perfect.

Oh yes, the tears come and sometimes I get a burning pain across my shoulder blades. I'm sorry it wasn't so nice, but it does help learn the lessons......just a mean old teacher!

Funny you had that experience. I was up until about 4 this morning with the biggest pukefest I've had since I was pregnant. I was so upset last night, and I made really poor food choices--at least I am recognizing and owning it...and I've been trying to be nice to me today. I hope I'm not grossing anyone out, but since virtually every single person here is likely to have experienced the same thing at some point in time....what's the use of modesty?
Laura, I think about you many times during the day, and I marvel at your life. I had 2 kids and thought it was hard work, I don't think I could do 5. My ex-husband's fam had 5 kids in 7 years, he was the oldest. It was pretty wild, as I also just have 1 brother who is just the same amount of time younger than me as my daughter and son, who are 30 (!!!) and 26. I have a hard time accepting that I have a 30 year old child. Sorry to hijack just for a paragraph, but your abilities amaze me to no end. I bow to your superior parental commitment.
Hey, Mother's Day is just about 2 weeks away. If you don't have the baby until after Mother's Day, you get one extra day of pampering and love...it would be a rip off if Mother's Day was also one of the days where you are in the hospital and have people waiting on you anyway.
Okay, back to the puking! I realllllllllly hate it too but I am learning that it just a part of a loser's lot in life. It really is different from old style vomit. This is an inane posting......

Like you, I didn't vomit at all until I became more daring with my food choices. Chicken is hard for me and I have discovered anything with a sauce makes dense protien go down so much nicer. Once a week I make either a brisket, braised beef short ribs or shank which are sooooo fork tender and have that for two nights with the family.
I just have to make a very concerted effort to eat slow and chew.
best of luck

Cindy, prior to the surgery I was just like you a total vomit phobe. Lets just say that the surgery has cured that phobe. Vomiting now is nothing like it was before, pardon the comparison but I consider it a picnic to what it used to be like. Usually if I have to its my fault and its best to get it over with rather than to let it ruin your day.

That is too funny! I also can talk myself out of a vomit! But not ever since surgery, now i dont do it often but when i gotta i gotta. No choice in the matter, and no talking myself out anymore. I am also phobic of other people's vomit. I dont like to see it, smell it..nothing! I will run lol
Glad to know i'm not the only one.

I have been eating chicken with no problem since week 4, but this time it just didn't work. Goes to show every day is a new experience.
I also can not handle anyone else's vomit. When my kids are sick I am a HORRIBLE Mom. I set them up in my bed with everything they need...including the puke bucket and I hide until I hear the vomit stop...then I'll go in and rinse out the bucket (without looking)...and this is all if my hubby isn't home. If hubby is home he does it all...he is a Saint!!

At 8 1/2 weeks out, I haven't actually vomitted YET, but I know the day will come when I will. I have dumped, but got the racy heart and nauseous feeling, but no puking yet. The closest I have come was when I brushed my teeth - two or three times I gagged after I brushed my tongue and I thought I would hurl, but nada I know, however, that I am not exempt, and that my day will come (argh!)...
