I have found that meat goes down so much better when I have it with a bit of gravy or something like that. It does sound like a lot of food to me. Personally, it seems to me that if you are frequently throwing up your body is trying to tell you something. I know when I starting throwing up more often I went to small frequent meals of things like soup, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc and it really helped a lot. Maybe instead of eating a larger portion at one time you may want to try eating smaller amounts more often. Just my humble opinion.

Hey Mary!
The million dollar question is: How long did it take you to eat the pot pie?
I can eat a whole pot pie, in 20 mins... I know I should stop at 15, but didnt.
Lots of peeps here could do it too, in 30-45 mins.

SO if your taking longer than 15 mins to eat, ya gotta stop that, okay?
Good luck n stuff sugar pea!

Default Hi from the UK

Hi Mary
i had my surgery 14 weeks ago and am really careful with meat and fish.
All I would say is that you dont want to rip anything and cause problems, your new pouch needs time to heal.

Angela

Bridget already hit on the question I was going to ask. It does to me seem like a lot for a sitting. If the length of time is not the issue then maybe you can find foods that do fill you quicker and lean more on them and protein. For example, for me I can eat lots of chips or crackers, but if I have meat and a sweet potato I can only eat a small portion. Now a friend of mine can hardly eat pasta, but can eat more meat than I can. So, if there is a difference there maybe we can help suggest a way to tweak it for you. I know you want to be successful and healthy......and it's great that you are trying to work the kinks out, that is what the honeymoon phase is for because it is so forgiving. You just hang in there.....we all had to establish new routines.

I have been able to eat 2-3 ounces of cooked protein since 1 month out from surgery and made sure not to escalate it. That is the key. I eat half a south beach lunch/ frozen dinner as a meal and could do so since 6 weeks. Half a south beach dinner has 14-16 g of protein (28-32 in a whole one). I can eat an entire breakfast south beach wrap, but it is mostly scrambled egg. Be careful not to escalate and the vomiting may be that you ate too much the meal prior and it is still in your pouch.

I can't do 7oz. at any time and I am 3 months out. I wasn't a breakfast eater before but I make myself eat something or a protein drink in the morning. If I don't then I can't get in enough protein for the day. Have you tried waiting for 1-2 hours after you get up to have something? Even milk and cheese (1oz) is better than having nothing in your pouch. I find one of the worst times for me to eat is when the pouch is hungry...it doesn't like the food then...if I keep it well nourished throughout the day, its happier.

7 oz is not even on my radar yet unless it is liquid like my Carnation Instant Breakfast. With solids, I might get (at 8 1/2 weeks out) 4 oz of protein depending on what it is (meat is always less than chicken or fish...and all of this is better with mashed potatos or gravy since it makes it more moist), with tiny bites of veggies or mashed potatos in between several bites of the protein.

Mary personally I think you are comsuming to much being so early out. Does your surgeons office have a nutrionist you could address these food portions with? Mary I hope everything works out. Just make sure everything is OK and you are not in any danger eating that amount of food this early.

Mary Dear...Talk to your Dr. I know they said last time I was there that we would be eating less than 3 oz at any one sitting. There is a rare problem that sometimes happens where the opening at the bottom of the pouch does not heal properly and seal up some, leaving the opening a bit too big, allowing more food to pass through keeping you hungry and able to eat larger portions that you should. Call Kathy (Office Nurse) and ask her. They might want to see you, as I am pretty sure Denise (Dietition) said that would be a larger portion that we would be able to handle at even 6months out.

I worry about you hun, you are hungry all the time and being able to eat like you do....yep...see what our Pro's have to say...that is what they are there for darlin'....CALL THEM!! That is what the 24/7 Surgeon Support is for!!

JMO - Laura

FYI: The names listed are Peeps in our Surgical Group...
