Thanks ladies. I have started the process of staying up later and sleeping until the afternoon. I usually get up for work around 5:45 pm (I work 7P - 7A) so this should help. I miss the daytime hours I have been experiencing for the last 5 weeks though. lol

Hmmm..I haven't had the surgery yet, but reading the 80 page book my insurance company sent to me on what they cover...that usually puts me right to sleep after page 2...

I've had trouble sleeping on and off since the surgery. Right after surgery I think it was because I was still on my high dose of Zoloft (anti-depressant for anxiety). When I stopped taking that, it got better. But I also think part of the problem was just the down time during your recovery. Even though you're recovering, you're still getting more sleep than usual, and your sleeping patterns get all off.
Recently, it's been happening again. I usually can get to sleep, but wake up at about 3am and can't get back into a "good" sleep.
I've been wondering if it has something to do with the weight loss itself. Like maybe my body is just so excited that it's loosing weight it doesn't think it needs as much sleep??? Just a thought...
I've only tried Tylenol PM. But I still wake up around 3pm. Though, on a weekend night I took another Tylenol PM at 3am. That was a good nights sleep!!! I haven't wanted to start taking Dr. perscribed sleeping pills. Maybe someday....

I had trouble right after the surgery, but I am having trouble once again. I am not sure why though. I stopped taking my prozac for about a week but I started it back again but I still cannot sleep a full night.

I saw my sugeon today for my 6 week check up. He said that this is quite common. They aren't exactly sure of the cause but they think it has to do with hormones??

I take Melatonin too! (Donna) Have for years when I can't get to sleep. LOVE IT!! It's nice and natural and can be used long term. It balances out the high levels of Seratonin that the fat stores and releases when weight is lost. Plus, you don't get that drugged, groggy feeling from Melatonin. If that doesn't work, then go with your Dr. Though, I would caution anyone about taking a perscription sleep aide for longer than 2 weeks. There have been some strange reports lately on what longer term use of sleep aides is doing to people...including sleep driving and Eating!!! Just be careful and work closely with your Dr. Best of luck!!

GNC has the melletonan(sp)? They have it sub-lingual also.
I have tried it...it works but sometimes it makes me restless and my legs hurt...just my own reaction.

precious sleep
They make a melatonin receptor drug called Rozerem. It is perscription but it is not a control. It will work better and more consitantly than the OTC melatonin. Melatonin is a naturally occuring chemical in our bodies. If you are in pain they use Trazodone alot to treat the pain and sleep problems as well as Amitriptyline.
What ever it takes, life is best with our 8hrs.
Good luck you all
