Dont take Lunesta it tastes like crap and everything you eat or drink will taste horrible. I kept eating trying to get the taste out of my mouth...you cant even drink water without the caca taste.

Michelle, did you ever solve your sleep problem.... I am only a week post op.. but am having a hard time with sleep. I am tired but feels like my legs just don't want to stop moving. I haven't tried anything yet, except stopping the Lortab, cause I thought maybe that was causing it. but that hasn't helped. I am going to go BONKERS soon.

I am now taking Ambien every night. I can't sleep without it. I actually have to take two of them, one just doesn't make that feeling in my legs go away.

Lisa (Goblin) had some really good thoughts. I have had trouble sleeping for years. I just can't turn my brain off and it keeps me awake. I take Klonopin and Nortriptylene every night, and it usually works okay. But then sleep in our house is a transitory thing, and we grab it when we can. I do know some things that make sleeping harder, tho. Exercise late in the day revs me up and I have trouble relaxing. Eating sometimes does also (string cheese, jerky, etc). Having a lot on my mind, having any caffeinated products after about 6pm...
Melatonin works pretty well, it's cheap, and doesn't leave you hung over the next day. Take 3 of the 3mg tablets, and you should be in dreamland without the help of a habit forming rx. There is also a drug called Sonata on the market that my shrink gave me samples of. Getting to sleep is easy--the good part. But then it's users tend to wake up like 4-5 hours later and can't get back to sleep. It happened to me too, so I even have unused samples of it in my "drug drawer." Melatonin taken with some hot sugar free cocoa really does a good job. Then if all else fails, the drugs that we take for sleeping are actually low doses of antidepressants and we kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Amytripylene, Nortriptylene, Klonopin, Ellavil--all antidepressants, but in low doses. Really helps shut the brain off so the body can take over and get the sleep it needs.
I hope you find something that works for you!

I have no idea what the problem is either. I was already on Paxil and started on Trazadone tonight. (I'll let ya know if it works.) My MD is looking into whether or not my insurance will cover Ambien or Lunesta. I'm at my wits end!
p.s.: I used to live in Marshfield and worked in the PICU at St. Josephs. I lived there for two years. I moved back home almost 4 years ago.

That fact that you usually work the night shift is part of it as well as you probably are used to being dead tired when you go to sleep. Not working and being on a different sleep/wake cycle is throwing you off. Benadryl or tylenol PM may help you fall asleep, but it decreases your REM sleep and you don't sleep as restfully. I would say go crazy a few days cleaning your house etc and I bet you will sleep better. By then you will be ready to go back to work and will be all messed up again.
