Hey poddy, you and I have chatted about this, but I thought I would post my thoughts here too for others.

I had this same situation a few weeks ago. As soon as I "fixed" the poop problem, the food started to go down better. Why - who knows....this surgery doesn't have a rhyme or reason to it sometimes. Once the milk of magnesia started to work, it was easier for me to eat. I still have to take that first bite and wait....eat slow and it works.

I am glad that you are eating a little better today and that you have finally resolved your poop problem.

Along Whitneys line....(the hubbys fav. line) You can't gain weight as long as you poop out as much as you take in.

Why constipation effects our ability to eat, is beyond me!

Well - I hope everyone here feels better, and that it is just constipation (not minimalizing your pain!!) and not a stricture. I am still concerned for you, though

no but i had a stricture & had to go back many times over a 2 month period to get the stricture to reopen...

Anywho, when I havent had a BM in 3 days, I get nauseated.. REALLY BAD! Sucks! I dry heave, I find that Im no longer capable of puking anything... but when you havent been eating nothing is coming out of the new pouch... just dry heaves. Dry heaves=stomach cramps! Like a charlie horse. I also get headaches. I feel your poopy pain sister!

I cant wait to have surgery to correct this unGodly pain!!!

Good luck to you, when in doubt call the doc! Pronto!

Do you have to get a rotator cuff repair? I hope they figure it out. I know what ya mean about being on pain killers. I have to take daily stool softeners and concentrate on eating fiber. And drink lots of water. Good luck Bridget.

Default Update

Well, everything seems fine again. I ate very well today. Like Lisa Boston, I have to take the first few bites of a meal very slowly. Then it's fine. Today was a great day. Feel very full and satisfied. Even ate out with my neice!

So....what have we learned here? Constipation can bugger up your pouch!

And I'm not full of crap!

Default thinking of you

Lisa A (Goblin) went for a scope on Thursday to see if they could find out what is going on in her pouch. They are not sure if its a stricture again or something else.

Keep her in your prayers - It's now Saturday and I haven't heard from her...we chat everyday...so I am quite concerned about her.

Lisa - hope you are doing fine and they found the source of your eating issues.

Thanks for the kind words, Poddy. I did indeed have another stricture...I was dilated 8mm to 15. Feel better...but this time scope hurt. : (

oh my i am so sorry - how did it hurt do you mean after like they scraped your throat or were you awake and felt things? i had several scopes and once did get a sore throat from scrapping i am guessing..

how many scopes have you had now? and are they doing the stretch all the same day?

For me i had surgery 10/18/05 healed really quickly because i went in on 11/6 and they said it was closed so tight they had to probe it - they dilatated me from 0 to 10 (9 balloons) then i stayed in the hospital and did nothing on 11/8 but on 11/9 they dilated to 13 then i went home...on 11/16 i went from 10 to 16 as an out patient but had to return 10/4/05 they did the die test and then had to give me potassium and get things under control before they took me in for the scopes...on 12/6/05 dilatated from 10 to 14 on 12/7/05 dilatated from 13 to 16 on 12/8/05 dilatated from 14 to 18 than on 12/9/05 i went home... i have not had a problem since they did the dilatations in December so i think the series is what made it work for me....i hope you dont need another but dont throw up a lot before you go in because potassium hurts thru an IV!

No, it wasn't my throat. My diaphragm and stomach hurt. Like I'd done sit -ups (the thought!!) But, it's pretty much subsided now. They said there might be abominal cramping. They dilated me from 8 to 15 all in one go. I can't believe the difference. Ate like a normal person today. So pleasant. Had my first real meat tonight with dinner, a bit of potato, some veggies and sauteed mushrooms. My mother said, "It felt like you ate with us tonight." If it would stay like this, I would be completely satisfied.

just pay attention to your pouch... & take it easy because youwll feel normal for a few weeks than it all comes back again but you already know that if it does come back maybe tel them to try it over a few days like they did mine at the end - i got that info from someone else on this board and it made my pouch better - now ifeel 100% actually i need to watch it so i dont over snack because i think the pouch empites a little faster than it should but it sure beats throwing up...good luck i hope it stays open for you!
