Question Burning pouch

In the past two months I have had an occasional burning sensations in my pouch. Sort of like when you have a shot of alcohol. But not painful but annoying. Im currently using Prevacid daily. Its usually in the afternoon when on an empty stomach. Has anyone else experenced the same.

Could your pouch be producing more stomach acid? You need to contact your PCP about this because you might need something a little stronger than Previcid or it could be something esle entirely.

I would suggest taking your Prevacid first thing in the morning. It should be in there taking care of your acids starting with your first meal! As a nurse, we always administer Prevacid before breakfast. Hope this helps. Also, I am 5 years out and still have a fussy pouch now and then!

I agree with seeing your doc, but our pouches do not create bile so that couldn't be the cause of it...

I was told that also when I was experiencing gas...30 mins before breakfast and 30 mins before dinner.

Thanks guys. I went to see my bariatric Dr. today. He referred me to a gastrologist that specializes in ulcers. He thinks I may have an ulcer. He's also sending me to get an ultrasound for my gallbladder for possible stones. I get small pangs of pain in that general area. Man, talk about bad luck. Well I'd rather have my gallbladder taken out now than suffer from major pain later. THANKS FOR YOU ALLS SUPPORT.

Default I had pain...

After my surgery, I started to have this burning pain in my stomach and it just kept getting worse. I called Dr. C's office and Kelly put me on Aciphex. That worked WONDERFULLY for a while until my insurance company refused to pay for it anymore. So, I tried some over the counter types of acid reducer/acid blocker, but eventually the pain returned and this time it was worse! Got some free samples of Aciphex from the Dr, but this time it didn't help! So, my PCP changed me to Protonix instead and scheduled an Upper GI to rule out an ulcer. He recommended I take it at night since the acid builds up in your stomach during the night when you are not eating or drinking anything. That worked. And the Upper GI showed that I did not have an ulcer. I have no clue what was causing the pain. I had my gallbladder removed in '99, so I always assumed since I didn't have a "storage unit" for my bile that it was being dumped right into my pouch...thus causing my pain. Apparently that was incorrect. There has still been no scientific reason I get the pain when I don't take a prescription type medication. I'm at a loss. I didn't mean to ramble on and on and attempt to hi-jack your thread, but I hope this helps a little. Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!
