I have a question about my skin......
Ok, here goes. I'm hoping that maybe someone has experienced this and might be able to give me some insight. I am about 9 months out and for the past month or so my skin has become so itchy. At first I thought it was just because of the excess skin but it is bothering me everywhere, even places like my forearms where I don't have any excess skin. I was talking to a friend of mine who has also had the surgery and she thinks that it might be that I'm dehydrated. Does anyone have any suggestions, I'm going crazy here. My skin is pretty sensitive to begin with and all of this scratching is giving me red marks and welts all over my body, HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I've been going thru that for a while. It is dehydration. Increase your water intake, and I use baby oil while still wet in the shower. It really helps for me.

I've been using the baby oil while in the shower and I also went out and bought some of the new baby oil gel, and nothing seems to be working. I've tried to increase my water but apparently I haven't increased it enough. I just got some blood work done today because my surgeon wants me to do it every three months for awhile because my levels are so low, do you think they will notice if I'm dehydrated by my blood work as well. I definitely don't want to have to make a visit to the hospital because of dehydration.

Hi,
I have a question.
Do you or are you taking any pain medication?
Vicodin or Codine can cause skin irritation or itchy spots.
This is from personal experiences.
Stop taking these meds and switch to a non narcotic.
Also,
Calamine lotion or benadryl can help if your doctor approves.

itching
I was going to suggest that maybe it is some type of allergic reaction and to try Benedyrl if, your physician says that it is okay.

Weight loss can cause hormonal changes which leads to dry skin. So can many vitamin deficicenies.

In addition to dehydration, essential fatty acid deficiency which is very common in GBP patients, can cause dry, itchy scaly skin. My doctor requires EFA's to be replaced starting at month 3.

I am only 5 1/2 weeks out, and have been itchy too. Of course, i amstill wearing my binder which causes a lot of skin irritations for which I am applying Lamisil, but I itch in other spots too like my feet, my hands, etc. I taked to my doc, and she said that it is probably one of the drugs I stil take called Allipurinol which is to prevent gout. Hopefully she will take me off it at my next visit 4/24 and i will be itch free. I get between 64 and 75 oz. of fluids a day, so I should be hydrated....

Me too
Yes, it's funny you mentioned this b/c my eczema has resurfaced after several years and it was not even that cold here in NY this winter. I got some medicated cream and it is getting better, but i also thought that this was weird that i got it again and did contribute that fact to the surgery. Well, now i know i probably wasn't drinking enough.
Guess we better start sipping more!
