Question Putting on the brakes...

Wow, I got here so quickly. 9 months out and it seems like weeks.

I've mostly been a reader, not a starter, but it's time for an exception.

I'm fast approaching my original goal, and am starting to wonder, did anyone else worry about not being able to stop losing? I'm in a comfortable routine of about 12-1500 calories a day with adequate protein, fiber and I take vitamins and calcium. But there's no way I'm not losing weight on 1500 calories per day, and I am eating all I can now.

The wife is voicing her concerns regularly too, (which probably worries me more than my own thoughts). As far as I'm concerned, this is a good problem. I'm sure I didn't just invent this idea, but what about the other travelers out there, how did you stop when you needed to?

There's always the milk shake diet I guess...

In my experience you will find that those closest to you will voice concern about losing too much weight. Even when you have been the same weight for 2 years (like me) they are still gonna ask ya, When are you going to stop losing? Its weird. But, those who dont know you, when they find out you have WLS they are amazed, say you look great and you look like younever had a problem with your weight. They will say you look like youhave been thin your whole life!!!! Its just those close to ya, remmerb your full, fleshy heathy cheeks.. that was normal, like it is in them usually. When you get that "super model" "gaunt" face they get concerned.. but frankly, gaunt is healthy, chuuby aint. Its easier to say than it is to accept for sure, to this day Im uncomfortable with the appearance of my face and do what ever I can to enhance the fullness of my cheeks with cosmetics.

All I can tell you is this, if your surgery went well, if your pounch is the size its supposed to be, you WONT lose more weight than your body deems healthy. We have a fat, muscle, body mass equation that will allow us to maintain weight naturally... you can go underwent if your surgery didnt go well or your force your body into starvation, ir buliema or aneroxia.

relax, after your at your goal they will start to complain about other things. Liek youve changed, or your not funny any more... something else really lame thats gonna bum ya out like it des the rest of us... just know here you are amongst friends, and people that have the same thoughts and circumstance you do. Just keep on keepin on bud! Good luck!

Default Thanks...

Well, I think my surgery went really well, so I'm not really concerned about wasting away. But if you hear this "you're getting too thin" thing enough times, it does start to worry a little. Overall, I'm thrilled with the way things are going, even the saggy skin part is really very minimal.

So thanks for your input,

Mark

Hi Mark...

I am wondering about how many grams of carbs you consume in a day? Maybe try upping them if you're not getting a lot. That should slow you down and steady you out.

Default Grams of Carbs...

You know it's funny, in my "before" attempts at losing, low carb diets were by far my most successfull attempts (except for gaining it all back eventually). I kind of naturally think of carbs as bad.

Now I probably do about 80-100 grams per day (the protein bars I eat are not low carb, but taste OK and have the protein). I still am not worried about being too thin as it's hard to imagine this condition, and I take a lot of comfort from bridgetgirls reply. Too thin, hmmm. Who'd have thought this would ever be a concern though.

Thanks to you both for your replies,

Mark

Many people have a hard time watching those they love change. Loosing weight is a big one as it not only changes you on the outside, but also on the inside (you change your way of life, more active, energy ect). People remember you the way you were.

Focus on YOUR feelings about your weight loss and I agree with Bridget, your body will start telling you when you get to where you should be. Keep in touch with your doctor and make an educated decision on your goal weight.

Wish you the best

Well, I think that's enough carbs. Hopefully your body will just "know" when to stop. I know there are a few people here that lost fast and kept losing and they are below goal. My surgeon said that those people normally gain 10-20 back after a few months to steady the body out.

I have heard the same as Megan-You may dip down a bit and then go back to an average healthy weight. I get the, "YOUR TOOO SKINNY!" thing all the freakin' time! I think it is several issues-jealousy, time period in which the loss happens, and those who have known you forever have either never seen you so thin or it's been a really long time. I have been worried about why my loss hadn't stopped, but it has seemed to level off finally, but I haven't gained an ounce which is fine with me.
