Update on Tricia Knox...
I went to visit Tricia Knox last night after our support meeting. She was still in ICU. She was really tired, so I didn't stay too long. She went open, no drain. She was experiencing terrible back pain, I told her morphin is your friend, use the pump! She had good color and was moving in her bed really well. They are going to transfer her upstairs today.
God speed on your safe recovery Tricia! When you get home, give us an update!

Karen,
That's just how we are! We do worry about each and everyone that goes in for this surgery because we all know what got us here and we all know what risk we were taking deciding to have this elective surgery. We are a compassionate and caring group of people. I am so glad to be associated with you all!

Thanks for the update
Hi Kim,
Thanks for giving us an update on Tricia. I figured she probably wouldn't be up for many visitors. I remember my first night. I'm sure she's doing better today and will get easier as the days go by.
Tricia - Remember that your first week is the hardest. I'll pray for a speedy and healthy recovery for you. We look forward to hearing from you also.
God bless you Kim & Tricia. Kim - You're a sweetheart!

Thanks everyone!
Yes, I am home now. Wow, what a ride. Got to the hospital Monday night to discover that they are in the process of switching to a new computer system and everything was messed up, so there would be a little wait. So I sit in the waiting room to wait. Another woman comes over to me and asks if I am there for the gastric bypass. I say yes, and she says that she is too and is sitting over there if I want to join her. Well, heck, she is a pod buddy so of course I said yes. Here is where it gets funny. Her name? Patricia, her hubby/buddy's name? Bob. My full name is Patricia and my buddy's name is Bob. She gets checked in first and goes up to floor 3. I go up a few minutes later. As I am walking down the hall following my nurse of the night another nurse says "you must be #2 tomorrow". I said, "No, I am #1". She goes, "Patricia is #1", and I say, "I am Patricia, we are BOTH Patricia's". Way, way too funny. They kept trying to mix us up, but Dr Callery knew which was which and that is what counted. Then they lost my buddy for a while, actually he kept going AWOL. But he was there when it counted and that was good. They finally go to get me up around 7pm that night and they tell me that I will be sitting on the side of the bed only and to give them a minute and they will help me. They (two nurses) turn their backs, turn back around and I am sitting on the side of the bed! Shocker for them. They asked if I was okay and I said yes, then they asked if I thought I could walk and I told them let's go for it. Did 2 laps around ICU. Shocked them. I did have tremendous back pain that first night. Morphine didn't touch it. I was sleeping in 20 minute increments only. Finally around 2am we hit on something that worked.....ice packs. They worked like a charm and I could sleep for almost an hour at a stretch. Got up to the 4th floor and into a regular bed, which was better for my back. Kelly put in an approval for valium for my back, but I never asked for it. I got more ice packs and the Lorval and slept for 2 and 3 hour stretches. Would have been longer, but they woke me to give me meds and to take my vitals, then I woke when someone went by my room at 2am (they were LOUD). Realized my arm was killing me and called the nurse, had blown my IV out. That got replaced, grrr. One other thing, ICU didn't want to take my catheter out, I was filling their bag too fast! But I am home now, had chicken broth for lunch and it was GOOD! Now I am ready to go for a short walk, then take a nap. I would say that I am a loser, but I gained 2 lbs in the hospital, so I am not one quiet yet!

Tricia,
Glad to hear from you! You are quite the trouper to put up with the computer glitches in your names. You sound like you are in good spirits too! You are on your way. Don't worry about the weight gain from the hospital - I gained 10 or so pounds. It leaves as fast as it came. Sip, walk, sleep, sip walk, sleep. Take good care and if you need anything, let us know.
